Nigeria’s Population to Exceed 237 Million by 2025 – Report
The report states that Nigeria’s population accounts for approximately 2.85% of the global total, ranking it as the sixth most populous country in the world
According to the latest United Nations data, as estimated by Worldometer, Nigeria’s population is projected to reach 237,527,782 by 2025. This marks an increase from the 235,072,214 recorded in December 2024.
The statistics indicate that Nigeria’s population grew by 4,796,533 between 2023 and 2024. Meanwhile, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that the world population increased by more than 71 million in 2024, reflecting a slight slowdown from the 75 million increase observed in 2023.

The data highlights Nigeria’s most populated cities, including Lagos with 15,388,000 residents, Kano with 4,910,000, Ibadan with 3,649,000, Abuja with 2,690,000, and Port Harcourt with 2,120,000. 53.9% of the population is urban, amounting to 125,447,884 people in 2024.
Nigeria has a population density of 255 people per square kilometer (662 people per square mile) and covers a total land area of 910,770 square kilometers (351,650 square miles).
The report notes that the median age in Nigeria is 17.9 years, and the life expectancy at birth is 54.6 years for both sexes. Females have a life expectancy of 54.9 years, while males have a life expectancy of 54.3 years.
The data also projects that the world population will reach 8.09 billion people on January 1, 2025. Read More
