Empowering the Future: 200 Ogun Pupils Benefit from REEL, Dolly Foundations’ Mind Challenge
Makogi, Ogun State — In a vibrant display of intellect, creativity, and youthful ambition, more than 200 pupils from 26 schools across Ogun State converged at Makogi Primary School for the inaugural Ultimate Mind Challenge, an initiative aimed at sharpening young minds through academic contests and community engagement.
The event, spearheaded by REEL Foundation in collaboration with Dolly Children Foundation, was supported by the Britain Nigeria Educational Trust (BNET) and UAC Foods, producers of Gala and Supreme ice cream. It featured a blend of learning and fun through three major competitions—Spelling Bee, Chess, and Scrabble.
Fifteen pupils emerged winners across different categories. In the Grade 4 Spelling Bee, Olatunde Esther of NESGEL School clinched first place, followed by Solanke Mark and Ochuko Ese of King’s Heart School. Ohia Paula of All Precious Worth School won the Grade 5 category, with Ojo Olamide and Amidat Olukotun close behind. Olatunde Joseph of NESGEL School emerged as the Chess champion, while Victor Azubuzor and Kalejaye Fatimah of Marshal School led in Scrabble.
Welcoming attendees, Mrs. Ajoke Adeola of the REEL Foundation emphasized the long-term vision of the initiative:
“Today, we are planting seeds of courage, intellect, and community. These children are our future leaders. This challenge is designed to show that brilliance exists in every child—it just needs opportunity and encouragement.”
Participants also took part in a Commitment Wall exercise, where they wrote down the societal issues they aspire to solve in the future. From insecurity and road infrastructure to education access and social welfare, the children’s responses reflected deep awareness and hope. “I want to fix bad roads,” wrote Ibrahim from Dolly Stars School. “I want all children to have free education,” added Praise from MarkFavour School.
The event received glowing commendations from dignitaries and education stakeholders. Mr. Benjamin A. Sorunke of the Ogun State Ministry of Education praised the initiative as “nurturing and transformative,” while Mrs. Ogunmodede from Abeokuta noted the enriching experience for both pupils and adults. Alhaja Lamidi, Women Leader of Makogi, applauded the unity between public and private schools, saying the event promoted inclusion and equity.
Closing the event, Mrs. Adedolapo Osuntuyi, founder of Dolly Children Foundation, emphasized its broader mission:
“It’s not just about who won today. It’s about raising children who can think critically, solve problems, and lead with compassion.”
