NAHCON Reaffirms Commitment to Due Process, Urges Media to Avoid Speculation

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has restated its dedication to accountability, transparency, and service delivery, while cautioning the public and the media against speculative reports that could amount to media trials.

In a statement issued by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publication, on behalf of the Chairman/CEO, the Commission said it was aware of recent media publications containing unverified allegations about its operations.

“As a public institution established by law, NAHCON remains dedicated to its functions with the highest sense of responsibility, honesty, accountability, and a zeal to deliver efficient services,” the Commission said. “This is in line with our mandate to serve Nigerian pilgrims and the nation well.”

The statement emphasized NAHCON’s close working relationship with other government agencies, including anti-corruption and regulatory bodies, stressing that the Commission would not shield any staff or process found wanting.

“As a responsible organisation, NAHCON maintains an open and ongoing relationship with all relevant government agencies. This cooperation is a standing principle of the Commission’s operations and its belief in due process and the rule of law. The Commission would not shield any staff or process found wanting,” Usara explained.

While addressing recent reports, the Commission appealed to journalists and the public to exercise caution until investigations by the proper authorities are concluded.

“We respectfully urge the public and especially the media to exercise restraint on speculations and allow the appropriate authorities to conclude their work by established procedures without subjecting perhaps innocent persons to indignity through media trials. We are confident that whatever the truth is, it will emerge through the appropriate channels,” the statement added.

Looking ahead, NAHCON reaffirmed that its immediate focus is on post-Hajj evaluations and strengthening future operations.

“The Commission remains focused on post-Hajj evaluations, addressing operational challenges, and strengthening measures to ensure even better service delivery in future Hajj operations,” Usara noted.
