2027: Atiku Pledges Support for Any ADC Presidential Candidate After 2026 Primary
Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has declared that he will support any candidate who emerges winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary in 2026, stressing that the party’s choice will not be predetermined.
Atiku, a key leader in the coalition movement, made the declaration during the welcome ceremony for new defectors into the ADC in Lagos State on Saturday. The event marked the formal reception of top members from the Labour Party (LP) and ADC into the coalition’s fold.
Those who received the defectors included ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola; Senator Kolawole Ogunwale; and the party’s Lagos State Chairman, George Ashiru. Atiku was represented at the event by Prof. Ola Olateju, who delivered his message as guest speaker.
On the issue of the party’s presidential flag bearer, Atiku maintained that the ADC would allow a transparent and fair process.
“It is not a thing we can predetermine. Whoever emerges through free and fair contests, we are all going to support,” he said.
He added that the party would not impose candidates on its members, “We are not imposing anyone on the people. All aspirants will have a level playing field, and our doors remain open to everyone who wishes to contest.”
Atiku further emphasized that whoever wins the primary would carry the mandate of all Nigerians into the 2027 general election.
