Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage urges artists to stay humble, warning that fame can vanish overnight. She admires Ayra Starr, Tems, and Diamond Platnumz for their confidence and artistry

Global Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has delivered a powerful message to her colleagues in the booming genre, urging them to stay grounded despite fame and fortune.
In a recent interview with Hot 97 FM, New York, the “Malo” crooner warned that artists must never forget that they are simply ambassadors of Afrobeats, not the movement itself.
“We are just ambassadors, we are just like the faces of Afrobeats. And that’s why we can’t let it get into our heads because we are just vessels and there can be somebody else. God can take it away like that. So, you have to be grounded. You have to be humble,” she cautioned.
Savage stressed that it is far more painful to fall from grace than to have never been famous at all.
“Imagine, coming this far and then falling. That is worse than not ever tasting fame. I would rather have never seen in my life than seen and lose my sight. That is worse to me. So, for me, it is like, I have tasted this thing now, I have to be humble. Just for God’s sake,” she added.
The award-winning singer also opened up about the admiration she has for some of her fellow Afrobeats and African stars.
Speaking about Ayra Starr, Tiwa said she sees herself in the rising star but described Ayra as a more confident version of her younger self.
“I love Ayra Starr, it’s almost an obsession. I see myself in her, but I see a more confident one. When I was starting out, if I saw an article that my skirt was too short, the next time I might wear trousers. But Ayra would wear a skirt that is even shorter the next time. I love her confidence.”
On Grammy winner Tems, she praised her for maintaining a sense of mystery, “I love the mystery behind Tems. You don’t know too much about her and she doesn’t care.”
Savage also extended her admiration beyond Nigeria, applauding Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz for his talent and dedication, “I love Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania. He is so talented and he has put his community on the map.” Read More
