Lagos APC Endorses President Tinubu for 2027 Re-Election, Begins Massive Mobilisation Drive
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, setting the tone for early mobilisation towards the 2027 general elections.
The landmark endorsement came during a historic stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, where party leaders, elders, and stakeholders from across the state gathered to review the last elections and chart the course ahead.
The motion for President Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Oba Shotobi, speaking on behalf of traditional rulers and community leaders, said, “We endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to go for the second time. So, I move.”
Obasa followed with his declaration of support, saying, “In view of the submissions made by all the stakeholders and motion just being moved by our Royal Majesty of Ikorodu, I do hereby second the motion of my colleagues from Lagos State House of Assembly and the people of Lagos State. I so second.”
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who led the Lagos delegation, said the endorsement was well deserved, describing President Tinubu as a leader who has kept faith with his promises to Nigerians.
“Our President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is the 12th governor in Lagos State. We have listened to all our stakeholders here today, and by unanimous decision, we are saying — run for second term.
I believe that this message will get to Aso Rock and the nooks and crannies of this great country,” the governor said.
Party chieftains reflected on Tinubu’s enduring legacy as a former Lagos governor (1999–2007), Senator for Lagos West, and the architect of Nigeria’s progressive movement, noting that Lagos remains his political stronghold and ideological base.
Senator Tokunbo Abiru (Lagos East), speaking on behalf of the National Assembly Caucus, described Tinubu as a visionary leader shaping Nigeria’s future, “We, in Lagos, the cradle of progressive politics, have long understood what visionary leadership looks like.
As Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu transformed Lagos into a model of fiscal innovation, urban development, and inclusive governance.
Today, as President, he is applying that same strategic clarity and courage to the entire federation.
Therefore, I proudly and unequivocally endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027. Lagos stands with you.”
APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, representing the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, emphasised the importance of converting voter registration into actual votes.
“While voter registration is important, getting registered voters to vote is more important,” he said.
Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced incentives to boost voter registration participation — ₦1 million for the top polling unit, ₦5 million for the leading ward, and ₦20 million for the best-performing local government.
“The love we have for our President, governors, lawmakers, and party can only translate into victory if we register and vote,” Ojelabi said.
Former Lagos Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, delivered a thought-provoking presentation on voter apathy and the sanctity of elections.
“We are progressives because we are determined to improve the human condition,” he said, adding that while the APC grows stronger, opposition parties struggle to unite.
Fashola lamented the low voter turnout in Lagos during the 2023 elections — about 30% participation — and challenged party members to rekindle enthusiasm:
“Renewed Hope should generate renewed enthusiasm. We must ask: are our policies resonating with the people? What does our reward system look like?”
He clarified that the stakeholders’ meeting was not a campaign rally, but a strategic reflection session aimed at preparing early for victory in 2027.
The meeting was attended by prominent leaders, including Prince Oluyole Olusi (GAC Chairman), former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, federal ministers Wale Edun, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, as well as lawmakers, traditional rulers, and youth leaders.
Ministers presented Tinubu’s scorecard, highlighting progress in the economy, industry, and education, while Deputy Governor Hamzat showcased Sanwo-Olu’s ongoing developmental strides.
As the meeting concluded, the message from Lagos APC was clear and unanimous:
“Tinubu 2027 — Lagos leads, Nigeria follows.” Read More
