Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dismissed widespread insinuations of a rift between him and his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisting that those attempting to sow discord between them will not succeed.
Speaking on Tuesday in Madobi during an event marking the 69th birthday of the former governor, Yusuf reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Kwankwaso and pledged continued commitment to the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which he described as the guiding philosophy behind his administration’s vision for the state.
“Those within and outside trying to create a quarrel between me and our leader, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not succeed,” the governor declared. “We will continue to follow the legacy and principles of the Kwankwasiyya movement because Kwankwaso is a God-given leader.”
Governor Yusuf praised Senator Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), describing him as a visionary and selfless leader whose political philosophy has shaped governance in Kano and beyond.
He also prayed for long life, sound health, and renewed strength for Kwankwaso, acknowledging his enduring contributions to the state’s socio-political transformation and human capital development.
Speculations about a rift between the two NNPP leaders emerged months ago following reports of a political movement known as “Abba Tsaya da Kafarka” (meaning “Abba, Stand on Your Feet”), allegedly led by former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Baffa Bichi, and ex-Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Salisu Digol.
The group was said to be advocating for greater autonomy for Governor Yusuf’s administration — a stance political observers feared might strain his relationship with Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s founding figure and a former two-term governor of the state.
However, Yusuf’s latest remarks appear to have put those rumours to rest, emphasizing unity within the Kwankwasiyya family and reaffirming that his government remains firmly aligned with the ideals of the movement.
Since assuming office, Governor Yusuf has consistently attributed the guiding framework of his administration to the Kwankwasiyya ideology, anchored on social justice, youth empowerment, education, and grassroots development.
His reiteration of loyalty to Kwankwaso underscores the movement’s enduring influence in shaping political direction and policy decisions in Kano State.
