Tinubu’s Govt Set to Empower Nigerian Youth with N150,000 Monthly Stipend
In a bold move to address youth unemployment and strengthen national productivity, the Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) — a transformative 12-month paid internship designed to equip young graduates with real-world work experience and professional mentorship.
The initiative was announced by Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadeja, during a press briefing in Abuja. He described the NJFP as a major pillar of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at creating sustainable employment pathways for Nigerian youth.
“This initiative empowers youth directly and enhances workforce capacity nationwide,” Hadeja said, adding that the programme aligns with the government’s broader economic strategy to reduce unemployment and foster inclusive growth.
Each selected fellow under the programme will receive a ₦150,000 monthly stipend for the duration of the 12-month internship, during which participants will be deployed across public and private sector organisations.
The fellows will gain access to mentorship, skill development, and hands-on experience that prepares them for long-term employment or entrepreneurial ventures.
According to Hadeja, the NJFP was conceived in response to rising youth unemployment worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic and designed to boost Nigeria’s human capital base.
The official launch of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme will hold on Wednesday at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, and will be presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The event will bring together government officials, private sector leaders, and development partners to celebrate what the Presidency calls a “symbol of renewed national hope and opportunity.”
The NJFP is being implemented in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) — both described as long-standing allies in Nigeria’s development journey.
According to a report by Daily Sun, the EU Head of Operations confirmed a €44 million (about ₦70 billion) commitment to support the rollout of the programme, while the UNDP representative expressed optimism that the partnership will deepen institutional growth and expand youth employment opportunities across the country.
Beyond its immediate employment benefits, the NJFP is expected to create a lasting impact on the Nigerian labour market.
Participating organisations will gain access to highly skilled and motivated young professionals, reducing recruitment costs and improving productivity, while the fellows are expected to emerge with enhanced employability and entrepreneurial skills.
“At the end of the programme, some organisations may retain fellows, while others may choose to start their own businesses, creating more opportunities for others,” Hadeja added.
With strong backing from the Federal Government, EU, and UNDP, the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme stands as a beacon of renewed hope — a commitment that Nigerian youth are being equipped to drive the nation’s next phase of economic growth and innovation.
The NJFP launch comes as the government intensifies efforts to empower small business owners and stimulate grassroots productivity.
A recent report by Legit.ng revealed that the Federal Government had introduced a ₦50,000 grant scheme for small-scale entrepreneurs, underscoring a growing commitment to inclusive economic empowerment across Nigeria. Read More
