Aiyedatiwa Didn’t Snub Aláàfin of Oyo — Aide Dismisses Viral Video, Calls It Misinterpretation

AKURE, October 9, 2025 — The Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor of Ondo State, Sunday Olugbenga Abire, has refuted social media claims suggesting that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa intentionally snubbed the Aláàfin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade I, at a recent public event.

Abire, in a statement issued on Wednesday, described the circulating video as a “misinterpreted moment” being exploited by mischief-makers to malign the governor’s image.

“What is being circulated online is a clear case of misinterpretation. Governor Aiyedatiwa remains a thoroughbred Yoruba man, well-schooled in the fine philosophy of Ọmọlúwàbí as upheld by the Yoruba people,” Abire stated.

He stressed that Aiyedatiwa maintains a deep and consistent respect for traditional rulers across Ondo State and beyond, adding that such an act of disrespect is “completely alien to his character.”

“The governor parades royalty in his blood. He has never disrespected any crown in Ondo State, nor would he disrespect any monarch anywhere,” the aide said.

Abire recalled that since his days as deputy governor, Aiyedatiwa has maintained cordial relationships with traditional institutions and has demonstrated unwavering reverence for their roles in governance and community development.

He pointed to several pro-traditional initiatives by the governor, including the construction of a modern secretariat for the Council of Obas and the administration’s fair and transparent handling of succession matters in local communities.

“Those who are webbing the Governor into their hatred should look for another thing to do,” Abire warned. “Aiyedatiwa is a peaceful, responsible, and respectful leader who holds the traditional institution in the highest esteem.”

Dismissing any insinuation of tension between Aiyedatiwa and the Aláàfin, the aide emphasised that the governor “couldn’t have snubbed the revered Kabiyesi,” especially in a state where he holds no political stake.

“This narrative is false, unfounded, and mischievous. Governor Aiyedatiwa respects every traditional ruler — from Ondo to Oyo. The viral clip tells only a fragment of a larger, innocent moment,” he added.

Abire urged the public to disregard the misleading video and remain focused on the governor’s developmental agenda and commitment to strengthening cultural institutions across the Southwest. Read More
