Group Urges APC, GAC to Support Akinwunmi Ambode’s Return as Lagos Governor
A political pressure group, Ambode Comeback Crusaders, has called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State to throw their weight behind the return of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for a second term in office.
In an open letter addressed to both the state and national leadership of the APC as well as the GAC, the group’s leader, Abiodun S. Fashola, urged party stakeholders to consider Ambode’s re-election bid in light of his “outstanding developmental achievements” during his first tenure from 2015 to 2019.
The letter praised Ambode’s “commendable leadership and transformative vision,” noting that his administration initiated several landmark projects that continue to shape the state’s development trajectory.
“His tenure witnessed the construction of major roads, expansion of highways, and the development of the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge,” the letter stated, describing these as infrastructural milestones that improved connectivity and boosted economic activity across Lagos.
The group also lauded Ambode’s investments in education, healthcare, and environmental reforms, particularly the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme and the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, which revolutionized waste management and public sanitation across the metropolis.
According to the statement, Ambode’s government demonstrated prudent financial management, enhanced revenue generation, and attracted significant investor confidence, leading to job creation and economic stability.
Reaffirming Ambode’s constitutional right to seek re-election, the group appealed to APC leaders to “respect his mandate and allow him to continue his transformative agenda for the benefit of all Lagosians.”
“We strongly advocate the support of Mr Akinwunmi Ibidapo Ambode’s candidacy for a second term,” the group declared. “His visionary leadership is essential to build on the successes of his first term and to navigate the challenges ahead.”
The Ambode Comeback Crusaders expressed optimism that with renewed backing from the APC and the GAC, Lagos would witness “another era of growth, innovation, and people-centred governance” under Ambode’s leadership. Read More
