Osun 2026: Adeleke Faces Setback as Ex-PDP Scribe Akin Titiloye Quits Party Ahead of Guber Election

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid has suffered another major political jolt as Akin Titiloye, a prominent grassroots leader and former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, formally announced his resignation from the party.

Titiloye, known for his strategic influence in Ila-Orangun and surrounding communities, disclosed his decision in a letter dated November 1, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ward 3, Ila Local Government. Copies of the letter were also sent to the local and state party chairmen.

“I write to formally inform you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. My decision is personal and based on careful considerations,” he stated.

“I sincerely appreciate the support, cooperation, and kindness I have enjoyed from the party, its leadership, and members during my time as a member.”

Akin Titiloye’s departure has sent ripples through Osun’s political circles, with analysts describing it as a serious blow to Governor Adeleke’s grassroots machinery ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

A veteran politician, Titiloye has held several strategic positions in the state, including Commissioner for Agriculture, Chairman of Ila Local Government, and Chairman of the Governing Council at the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun.

He was also the Director General of Adeleke’s campaign team in Ila during the last governorship race — a role that helped consolidate the PDP’s presence in the area and secure critical local votes for the governor.

Titiloye’s resignation adds to a growing list of notable PDP figures who have exited the party in recent months. These include Hon. Wole Oke, a five-term member of the House of Representatives, and Hon. Bamidele Salam, a former lawmaker — both of whom cited frustrations with the party’s internal structure and leadership style.

Observers believe that the loss of such grassroots heavyweights could weaken Adeleke’s local dominance and embolden the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which has been strategically rebuilding its political base across the state.

While Titiloye has yet to declare his next political move, sources close to his camp suggest he is being courted by opposition leaders who view his defection as a valuable asset in the battle for Osun’s power balance.

Analysts say the resignation underscores the urgency for Governor Adeleke and the PDP leadership to address internal divisions and restore unity ahead of the next election cycle.

“When figures like Akin Titiloye leave, it’s not just about numbers — it’s about losing the trust of people who can mobilize at the grassroots,” said a political analyst in Osogbo.

The move, they argue, could either serve as a wake-up call for reconciliation or mark the beginning of deeper cracks within the PDP as political realignments intensify across Osun State.

This report is based on a verified resignation letter personally signed by Akin Titiloye and addressed to PDP ward and state leaders in Osun State. Confirmation of his exit was obtained from party sources within the Ila Local Government area. As of press time, neither Titiloye nor the Osun PDP leadership had issued further public statements on his next political direction. Read More
