ASR Africa commissions a N310m, 110-bed student hostel at FUT Minna, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable infrastructure and quality education across Nigerian universities

ASR Africa Commissions N310m Students’ Hostel at FUT Minna, Strengthens Tertiary Education Infrastructure
The Abdul Samad Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) on Monday commissioned a N310 million Students’ Hostel Building at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State, marking another major stride in its mission to transform tertiary education infrastructure across Nigeria.
The project, executed under the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme, is part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to provide sustainable, high-impact interventions that improve learning environments and student welfare nationwide.
The newly completed hostel, with a 110-occupant capacity, was designed to provide a more conducive living and study environment for students. It features a common room, reception, student hall, supervisor’s office, kitchen, laundry facilities, and multiple well-demarcated exits to ensure safety and comfort.
Earlier in August 2025, ASR Africa conducted a pre-handover inspection, confirming that the structure met all required standards—reflecting the Initiative’s emphasis on quality, durability, and long-term sustainability.
Expressing profound appreciation, the Vice Chancellor of FUT Minna described the donation as a critical boost to the university’s capacity to provide safe and conducive accommodation.
“This is an expected milestone achieved today courtesy of ASR Africa. I want to thank Abdul Samad Rabiu, the Chairman and Founder of BUA Group, for extending his philanthropic reach to our university. The building, being commissioned today, has in no little way advanced the achievements of the school in providing a conducive and safe accommodation for the teeming students of the school,” he said.
Managing Director/CEO of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, praised the university management for its collaboration and commitment during project execution.
He further emphasized ASR Africa’s culture of accountability, “Over the next two years, ASR Africa will be coming periodically to the school to ascertain the state of the hostel in conjunction with the school for joint accountability in terms of maintenance. Our interventions are targeted at ensuring students are the final beneficiaries, and this is reflected across recently commissioned projects.”
Speaking on behalf of Niger State Governor, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Sirajo Said, commended ASR Africa and its chairman for their exemplary support.
He described the donation as, “Exemplary and worthy of emulation by other corporate organizations.”
He also appealed to ASR Africa to extend similar interventions to the State University.
The donation reinforces ASR Africa’s growing footprint in strengthening higher education through sustainable infrastructure. The Initiative continues to address critical gaps in African universities by providing facilities that directly enhance student learning, safety, and overall development.
