Niger Govt Receives 100 Rescued Papiri Schoolchildren After Mass Abduction

The Niger State Government has officially received 100 schoolchildren who were abducted last month from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area.

Governor Mohammed Bago welcomed the pupils on Monday at the Government House in Minna, the state capital—just a day after authorities secured their release.

“Welcome,” Governor Bago said warmly as he shook hands with several of the children before leading them into a reception hall where the Emir and other local officials were gathered to receive them.

The pupils were part of a large group abducted when armed men invaded the remote Papiri community on November 21. The attackers reportedly stormed the school around 2:00 a.m., arriving on motorbikes and operating uninterrupted for nearly three hours.

During the attack, a total of 315 persons—including 303 students and 12 teachers—were taken away by the gunmen, marking one of the most significant mass school abductions in recent months. Read More
