Concerned PDP Leaders Broker Peace Between Wike and Anyanwu Factions, Revive Bukola Saraki Reconciliation Plan

PDP Elders Launch Fresh Peace Initiative, Urge Return to Bukola Saraki’s Reconciliation Formula

Concerned leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intensified behind-the-scenes efforts to reconcile the warring factions within the party, aligning with the peace formula earlier proposed by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Party sources disclosed that senior figures, anxious about the looming uncertainties ahead of the 2027 general elections, have reached out to key factional leaders—Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and former Jigawa Governor Alhaji Saminu Turaki—urging them to withdraw all pending court cases and jointly agree on a fresh date for a national convention.

A source familiar with the proposed reconciliation deal stated: “The PDP has to return to the Saraki suggestion to restore sanity and survive.”

Since the onset of the protracted leadership crisis, Saraki has consistently advocated for internal resolution without litigation. He warned that resorting to court battles would only delay progress, deepen divisions, and ultimately play into the hands of political opponents plotting the party’s downfall.

Saraki had advised party gladiators to focus on managing the party’s affairs until a credible National Convention could be held, where all issues—including constitutional reviews and forward planning—could be addressed collectively.

A prominent PDP chieftain from Lagos, speaking on condition of anonymity, lamented the initial disregard for Saraki’s counsel, which he said led to factionalization, multiple court cases, and a controversial convention whose outcome has been rendered ineffective by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The party leaders did not listen. They pushed the matter until there are resultant court cases and factions. With the litigations, Saraki advised that the best move is to stop the convention and set up a caretaker committee that will be used to resolve all the issues and reconcile the various factions and groups.

“Still, the feuding parties refused to listen, and they went to hold a convention that has now become an exercise in futility. With the decision of the INEC, the PDP has now become a flock of sheep without shepherds, a ship without a captain,” the elder stated.

He expressed optimism about the renewed peace drive, adding: “The next move is to return to the Saraki formula. As the former governor of Kwara State has counselled, the leaders should not wait for the court to give judgment in any of the cases.

“The party leaders should move among themselves and start talking about resolving the disagreements. I am happy about the latest peace effort.”

With the PDP grappling with leadership vacuum and legal battles, the revival of Saraki’s roadmap is seen by many stakeholders as the most viable path to restoring unity and positioning the party for a strong showing in 2027. Read More
