The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has appealed to the public for help in locating a TikTok user who alleged she was raped in her apartment by a stranger, following a viral video that has triggered widespread outrage online.
In a statement shared Tuesday via its official social media platforms, the agency confirmed it is making active efforts to reach the young woman to provide immediate support and appropriate intervention.
The case has fueled conversations nationwide, with the hashtag #StopRapingWomen trending on X as thousands of users demand urgent action against sexual assault and stronger protection for survivors.
The survivor, identified as Mirabel (@mirab351 on TikTok), said the incident occurred on Sunday, February 15. In a video posted Monday, she recounted that she had struggled with insomnia and consumed alcohol in the early hours of the morning before hearing knocks at her door.
Believing it was a neighbour, she said she opened the door and was immediately overpowered, hitting her head and losing consciousness. She later alleged that she regained awareness to find a man assaulting her and claimed she sustained injuries during the attack.
According to her account, the suspect subsequently sent disturbing messages allegedly admitting to the crime and boasting about evading consequences.
In a follow-up video on Tuesday, a visibly distressed Mirabel disclosed that she attempted suicide by ingesting a toxic substance but was rushed to hospital by a friend. She said she would respond to messages once she recovered.
Reacting to the development, the DSVA said it had taken note of the circulating video and public concern, stressing that its team is working to ascertain the survivor’s location and ensure she receives care.
“If anyone has credible information that can help us reach her directly and safely, please contact the Agency by sending us a DM on any of our official social media channels,” the statement read.
The agency reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to confidentiality, justice, and survivor protection, emphasising that sexual assault cases are treated with urgency.
