Ogun Govt, Ado-Odo/Ota LG Move to End Roadside Trading Around Sango-Ota Tollgate Ogun
The Ogun State Ministry of Environment has partnered with the Ado‑Odo/Ota Local Government to address the persistent challenge of roadside trading and illegal roadside parking along the busy Sango‑Ota corridor.
The initiative followed a working visit by the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, to the council secretariat, where he was received by the Chairman of the local government, Lawal Adewale Wasiu.
During the visit, officials from the state Ministry of Environment and representatives of the local government inspected key locations, including the Sango‑Ota Tollgate, the Sango Under Bridge, and a proposed new site designated for the relocation of market activities, transport parks, and garages within the Sango-Ota axis.
According to a statement by Alabi Sheriff, Chief Information and Public Relations Officer of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, the inspection was part of coordinated efforts to restore order and improve environmental safety in the area.
Speaking during the inspection, Commissioner Oresanya announced that roadside parking and commercial activities around the Tollgate and Sango-Ota areas will be officially relocated to Sango Garage and other approved trading locations beginning Monday, March 16, 2026.
He explained that the decision was taken primarily to prevent accidents and safeguard lives along the heavily trafficked corridor.
“Roadside parking and related commercial activities around the Tollgate and Sango-Ota areas will be officially relocated to Sango Garage and other designated trading locations beginning Monday, 16th March, 2026,” he said.
Oresanya noted that the government could no longer ignore the dangers posed by roadside trading, particularly accidents caused by brake failures.

The commissioner stressed that roadside trading, parks, and garages around the Tollgate area and the Sango-Ota under bridge must cease operations immediately.
He added that the relocation exercise would be strictly enforced with the support of security agencies operating within the local government area.
The move, according to him, forms part of broader efforts by the state government to improve traffic flow, environmental sanitation, and public safety across the state.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ado‑Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, commended the Ogun State Government for collaborating with the council to restore order and environmental sanity within the Sango-Ota axis.
He noted that the strategic location of the local government near Lagos State should reflect a higher standard of organization and development.
“However, efforts to achieve this have often been hindered by non-compliance from some residents and traders,” he said.
The chairman reiterated that his administration is committed to working closely with the Ministry of Environment to ensure the success of the relocation exercise.
He further lamented that several lives had been lost in accidents caused by brake failures around the Tollgate area, stressing that the safety of residents remains the government’s priority.
“As the Chief Security Officer of the local government, the council will take all necessary steps to safeguard lives and properties,” he assured.
Officials from the Ogun State Waste Management Authority were also present during the visit and pledged to intensify efforts to ensure residents are properly connected to approved waste management operators for effective waste disposal across the council area.
The inspection visit was attended by several government officials including, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser, Ogun State Waste Management Authority; Dr. Lawal Kafayat, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment; and Hon. Femi Akinwumi, Senior Special Assistant on Environment. Also present were engineers and other representatives from the Ministry of Environment.
The Local Government Chairman was accompanied by; Mr. Muhammed Ogabi, Secretary to the Local Government; Hon. Joel Okeodebija, Councillor representing Sango Ward; Mr. Wale Anjorin, Supervisor for Works and Housing; Mr. Razak Paul Oyekan, Supervisor for Health and Environment; and Mr. Bojinu Shedrack, Supervisor for Information, Education, Youth and Sports
