Lilian Afegbai Reacts to AMVCA Snub, Says ‘I Don’t Need Validation’

Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai, popularly known as Lily Afe, has voiced her disappointment after being left out of the Best Supporting Actress category at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Afegbai, who delivered a standout performance as Idia in Kemi Adetiba’s Netflix series To Kill a Monkey, took to social media to react to the snub, noting that while she anticipated the omission, it still hurt.

“I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear nobody trended like IDIA from TKAM last year. Her acting was… You guys can eat your award,” she wrote.

Her portrayal of Idia earned widespread praise, particularly for her authentic use of pidgin English, which resonated strongly with audiences.

Meanwhile, the Best Supporting Actress category features notable nominees including Linda Ejiofor, Bisola Aiyeola, Sola Sobowale, and Funke Akindele.

The 12th AMVCA ceremony is scheduled to hold on May 9, 2026, with expectations high for another celebration of excellence in African film and television.
