Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has paid glowing tribute to former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, as he marks his 70th birthday, describing him as a trusted ally and a key architect of Ogun State’s investor-friendly climate.

In a goodwill letter dated 20 March 2026 and addressed to Daniel’s Maryland, Lagos office, Dangote credited the former governor with laying the foundation for a thriving business environment that enabled his company’s investments in the state to succeed.

“Thanks to you, a conducive business environment was created in Ogun State, which has allowed our collaboration to flourish over the years as co-creators of value,” Dangote wrote on behalf of his family, board, management, and staff.

Reflecting on a relationship spanning more than three decades, Dangote described Daniel as “a close friend, amiable role model, and a man of calm disposition, inner strength, and cheerful outlook,” whose counsel has remained invaluable across multiple areas.

He also acknowledged the strong bond between their families, noting the connection with Daniel’s wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, and the wider Daniel family.

Popularly known as OGD, Daniel served as Governor of Ogun State from 2003 to 2011 and currently represents Ogun East in the Senate.
