Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have intensified efforts to strengthen unity within the party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

The move gained momentum following a strategic meeting convened by party chieftain and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Dr. Florence Ajimobi, at her late husband’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday.

The closed-door meeting brought together prominent figures in the party, including the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Senator Teslim Folarin; former Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan; Senators AbdulFatai Buhari (Oyo North) and Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South); and Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu.

Other attendees included Akeem Agbaje, Remi Oseni, Fatai Ibikunle, state party chairman Moses Adeyemo, and Idris Adeoye, alongside several other party stalwarts.

Sources familiar with the deliberations revealed that participants resolved to remain loyal to whoever emerges as the party’s governorship candidate after consultations with the national leadership, particularly President Bola Tinubu.

It was also agreed that the candidate selection process must be inclusive to ensure cohesion within party ranks.

In addition, stakeholders reportedly resolved to seek direct guidance from the President, rather than relying on third-party information, regarding his position and recommendations for the state.

The meeting, which commenced around 11 a.m., lasted for several hours, ending in the early afternoon.

As of press time, no official statement had been released concerning the outcome of the meeting.
