The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State by deploying aerial surveillance platforms to support ongoing rescue operations.

The surveillance missions are focused on gathering intelligence, improving situational awareness, and assisting security agencies searching for victims kidnapped from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed the development in a statement, noting that the Air Force has maintained aerial surveillance support since the abduction was reported.

According to Ejodame, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde revealed the intervention during a courtesy visit by Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, who represented the Chief of the Air Staff.

He explained that the Air Force promptly deployed a surveillance platform following the incident, providing critical intelligence that has helped security agencies monitor developments and coordinate rescue efforts.

“The Nigerian Air Force has continued to provide aerial surveillance support to ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State,” Ejodame stated.

Governor Makinde said intelligence generated from the aerial missions has been instrumental in supporting the operations of security agencies working to ensure the safe return of the victims.

He appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities, assuring them that every available resource is being deployed to secure the release of those abducted.

The governor also praised the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their swift response, noting that the intervention comes as Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are yet to become operational.

Makinde explained that the state procured the aircraft after consultations with the Air Force to ensure access to maintenance facilities, engineering support, and pilot training. He added that the assets would significantly enhance security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states once fully operational.

Representing the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at securing the safe return of the victims. He also commended the Oyo State Government for its continued support for NAF projects and infrastructure development.

The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its resolve to collaborate with other security agencies and stakeholders in protecting lives and property while tackling security challenges across the country.
