Ogun 2027: Salako-Oyedele Camp Repositions After Ogun APC Controversial Party Primary
Fresh political realignments are unfolding within the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele and her loyalists reportedly embark on a strategic rebuilding effort following their disappointing outing in the party’s recent primary elections.
Party sources said the deputy governor’s camp has begun reviewing its political strategy after suffering a series of setbacks during the primaries, where Salako-Oyedele failed in her bid to secure both the APC governorship ticket and the Ogun West senatorial ticket.
Insiders said the formidable political structure she built alongside Governor Dapo Abiodun since assuming office in 2019 was unable to deliver victory despite the governor’s considerable influence within the state’s APC.
While Abiodun controversially emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate for Ogun East, his former Chief of Staff, Shaib Afolabi Salisu, retained the APC senatorial ticket for Ogun Central.
Several politicians aligned with the deputy governor’s political bloc in Ogun West also lost their bids for elective offices. Among them was House of Representatives member Tunji Akinosi, who failed to secure the party’s ticket for re-election due to alleged insiders’ influence in the primary process.
The losses, party insiders said, have triggered renewed consultations within Salako-Oyedele’s camp as supporters seek to rebuild alliances and reconnect with various political tendencies across the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“They are moving away from the hard-line loyalty that gave birth to DANSOL towards a broader and more collaborative approach that accommodates different interests within the party,” one party source said.
DANSOL, an acronym coined from the names of Governor Dapo Abiodun and Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, emerged as the political platform for supporters of both leaders, particularly in Ogun West and the deputy governor’s Ota political base.
However, the platform reportedly lost momentum during the APC primaries after many of its loyalists failed to secure party tickets, fueling dissatisfaction within the group.
“It became obvious after the primaries that relying on the governor’s political influence alone may not be enough going forward. That is why there is ongoing fence-mending and renewed engagement with different tendencies within the party,” another source said.
Efforts to obtain comments from Salako-Oyedele’s camp on the reported political realignment were unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
