Ado-Odo/Ota Begins Obasanjo-Eledi-Ijagba Road Rehabilitation After Residents’ Appeal
Relief has come to residents of the Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State as the council has commenced the rehabilitation of the long-abandoned road linking the three communities following repeated complaints by residents.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Information and Public Relations Officer of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Alabi Sheriff.
For years, the road had remained in a deplorable condition, making movement difficult for motorists, commuters, traders and residents. The situation reportedly worsened during the rainy season as poor drainage and severe waterlogging rendered sections of the road almost impassable.
According to the statement, concerned residents recently appealed to the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, to intervene and restore the road to a motorable condition.
The council said Wasiu responded by carrying out an on-the-spot assessment of the affected road before approving immediate rehabilitation to address the hardship faced by residents.
Following the approval, the council’s Department of Works and Housing, led by Engr. Oladeinde Dapo, mobilised workers and equipment to the site. Ongoing work includes the excavation and construction of roadside drainage channels to improve the flow of stormwater, desilting blocked gutters, filling and grading failed portions of the road, as well as rehabilitating the road corridor.
Wasiu said the intervention reflects his administration’s commitment to responsive and people-centred governance, adding that infrastructure development remains a priority across communities in the local government.
“Our people in Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba cried out and we listened. As a government that is close to the grassroots, we have a duty to respond swiftly to the yearnings of our people. Good roads and effective drainage are not privileges; they are essential for economic growth, ease of movement and the well-being of our citizens,” the Chairman stated.
He assured residents that the project would be completed to standard and within a short timeframe, while urging members of the communities to cooperate with site workers, protect the infrastructure and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage channels.
Residents and community leaders welcomed the intervention, expressing appreciation to the council chairman for responding promptly to their concerns. They described Wasiu as a leader who has remained committed to improving the welfare of the people through practical interventions.
The statement added that the road project is part of the council’s broader infrastructure renewal programme. It noted that the administration is also executing a drainage project following the completion of a box culvert on Plaza Road linking Maltina in the Sango area, an initiative aimed at improving stormwater management, reducing flooding and protecting lives and property across the local government.
