Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir and a close ally of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been shot dead in Ile-Ife.
Suspected hoodlums killed Oyeyemi on Sunday during a violent clash over the control of a motor park (garage) in the ancient city.
Governor Adeleke confirmed the incident in a statement issued through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed. He directed the Osun State Commissioner of Police to arrest all those involved in the killing without delay.
The governor also ordered all warring groups to immediately vacate the motor parks and announced plans to establish a formal Park Management System across the state.
Calling for calm, Adeleke instructed security agencies to restore normalcy at the motor parks and maintain law and order throughout Osun State. He further promised to issue an Executive Order that will formally create the new park management structure aimed at restoring discipline and order in all parks and garages.
“Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book,” the statement read.
“We call on members of the public to remain calm. We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all costs.
“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state.”
