Two former All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants for the Lagos State House of Assembly have defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) after changes to the ruling party’s candidate list for Agege Constituencies I and II.
Kola Egunjobi, a former Agege Local Government chairman seeking the Agege Constituency I seat, and Azeez Yusuf (popularly known as Ninolowo), contesting Agege Constituency II, have obtained APM tickets to pursue their ambitions in the 2027 general election.
The move followed disagreements over the APC’s final selection of candidates for the two constituencies. Both men had earlier been reported as winners of the APC primaries held in May. Subsequent revisions to the party’s candidate list, however, named Oluwagbenga Abiola as the candidate for Agege Constituency I and Enimakure Akindele Sakiru for Constituency II.
Egunjobi publicly challenged the outcome in June, alleging that the results announced for the Agege Constituency I primary did not match the votes recorded at the polling centres. He maintained that he had won the primary before the party recognised another candidate.
With their switch to the APM, Egunjobi and Ninolowo will now contest the Agege Constituency I and II seats under the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 polls.
