The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Ogun West Senatorial District, has honoured the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo, with the Ogun West Statesmanship Award for her contributions to youth development and community advancement.
Agemo-Okuboyejo received the award on Thursday at the second edition of the Ogun West Youth Awards held at the ASUP Hall of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State.
The award ceremony was organised by the NYCN Ogun West Senatorial District to recognise individuals whose activities and contributions have been associated with youth empowerment, leadership, community development and public service in the senatorial district. Earlier reports on the event listed Agemo-Okuboyejo among personalities to be recognised at the ceremony.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Agemo-Okuboyejo expressed appreciation to the Ogun West youths and members of the NYCN for recognising her efforts, while urging young Nigerians to make deliberate use of their energy, skills and opportunities.
She said the youth stage should not be regarded merely as a period of transition but as a critical window for setting goals, acquiring skills and building the foundation for future achievements.
“Proverbs 20:29 says, ‘The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head,’” Agemo-Okuboyejo said.
She added, “The best stage in life to set goals and achieve them is during the youthful age. At this stage, you have energy, smartness and the ability to multitask. I implore you all to make use of your potentials now to make your respective dreams come true.”
The Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency candidate said the recognition would further strengthen her commitment to initiatives aimed at developing human capacity and creating opportunities for young people.
She described youth development as an investment in the future of communities and urged young people in Ogun West to take responsibility for their personal growth rather than wait solely for government intervention.
According to her, young people possess the energy and creativity required to drive meaningful change, but those attributes must be matched with discipline, purpose and a willingness to acquire relevant skills.
The award comes as Agemo-Okuboyejo continues her political campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections. She is the PDP candidate for the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, following the party’s presentation of its Ogun West National Assembly candidates.
Speaking with Newsheadline247 on the sidelines of the awards ceremony, Agemo-Okuboyejo said her political ambition was driven by a desire to improve the quality of life of residents of Ado-Odo/Ota and contribute to legislative solutions to challenges facing the constituency.
She said her aspiration went beyond seeking political office, stressing that she viewed the House of Representatives as an avenue to pursue policies and interventions capable of improving the lives of constituents.
“I am not just contesting; I am prepared for the federal legislative tasks, and the focus is to bring the right to a good life to the people of Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency that I will be representing, by God’s grace,” she said.
“This is beyond promises. It is the burning desire to contribute to reshaping Nigeria and making it a better place for all of us,” she added.
Agemo-Okuboyejo said her approach to representation would be centred on identifying the needs of constituents and pursuing practical legislative interventions rather than limiting representation to political rhetoric.
She also linked her political philosophy to her long-standing interest in education, human capital development and community empowerment.
The engineer has previously spoken about the need to tackle what she described as “intellectual poverty” through improvements in education and healthcare, while also advocating greater accountability in the management of public resources.
Her earlier engagements with journalists also saw her highlight challenges relating to infrastructure, education, skills development and the utilisation of the constituency’s economic potential.
For Agemo-Okuboyejo, the NYCN recognition represents another acknowledgment of her involvement in youth and community-oriented initiatives, including activities associated with the Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo Renaissance Project.
The award also adds to her public profile as she seeks to translate her professional and community development experience into legislative representation at the federal level.
While expressing gratitude for the recognition, she urged Ogun West youths not to underestimate their capacity to influence their communities, stressing that purposeful preparation during the formative years could position them for greater responsibilities in the future.
She said young people should combine education and professional development with service to their communities, arguing that the progress of Ogun West would depend significantly on the ability of its younger population to develop their skills and participate constructively in society.
Agemo-Okuboyejo further said the recognition would serve as encouragement to continue supporting initiatives that promote youth development and community advancement.
“I appreciate the Ogun West youths and the NYCN for this recognition,” she said. “It is an honour that comes with responsibility, and I remain committed to encouraging our young people to discover their potential, develop themselves and use their abilities to make meaningful contributions to society.”
Agemo-Okuboyejo is seeking election to the House of Representatives for Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency on the platform of the PDP in the 2027 general elections.
