Alake Receives Ladi Adebutu, Reveals His Egba Ancestry Ahead of Ogun Governorship Race
The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Oludotun Aremu Gbadebo, has received the Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oladipupo “Ladi” Adebutu, alongside other party candidates and leaders, affirming the governorship hopeful’s ancestral ties to Egbaland and offering royal blessings ahead of the state’s governorship election.
Adebutu was accompanied by the PDP deputy governorship candidate, Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, the party’s Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, as well as other candidates and party leaders during the visit to the Alake and members of the Egba Traditional Council.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the monarch described the visit as a significant homecoming for the PDP governorship candidate, stressing that Adebutu’s roots are firmly linked to Egbaland.
“His great grandfather, Pa. Alimi Adebutu, lived and was buried at Ijeun Akoni in Odeda Local Government Area,” the monarch said, reaffirming the family’s historical connection to Egbaland.
The statement added that the visit also provided an opportunity for the Alake and members of the Egba Traditional Council to pray for the PDP candidates as political activities gather momentum ahead of the election.
It noted that the royal audience underscored “the importance of preserving cultural heritage while fostering unity and peaceful engagement ahead of the forthcoming elections.”
The visit comes as political parties step up consultations, alliances and stakeholder engagements in preparation for the Ogun State governorship and legislative elections, with campaigns expected to intensify in the coming months.
