Amotekun: Olota Calls for Greater Collaboration to Tackle Insecurity

The Ogun State Amotekun Corps marked a historic occasion on January 9, 2025, with a distinguished lecture delivered by His Majesty, Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Obalanlege, (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode), Olota of the Paramount and Ancient Otta Kingdom.

The lecture, titled “The Roles of Traditional and Religious Leaders in Security,” took place at the Ogun State NYSC Camp in Sagamu.

The event, organized by the leadership of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps under the command of Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (Rtd.), Ph.D., was part of the ongoing training program for new recruits. The lecture aimed to equip the recruits with valuable insights in preparation for their security engagements.

His Majesty began by lauding the Ogun State Government, particularly the exemplary leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for establishing the Amotekun Corps as a proactive measure to enhance security across the state. Kabiyesi praised the Corps’ commendable achievements in addressing insecurity and building trust within communities, recognizing their integral role in the state’s security framework, especially at the grassroots.

Intelligence Gathering: Leveraging grassroots networks to identify and report emerging threats. “Eti Oba Ni Ile, Eti Oba Ni Oko”

Conflict Resolution: Mediating disputes to prevent escalation into violence.

Community Mobilization: Organizing resources to support security operations.

His Majesty referenced practical examples from Otta, including donations of vehicles and motorcycles to the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies to enhance operational efficiency and accessibility.

His Majesty also mentioned the complementary roles of religious leaders in shaping moral values and fostering interfaith harmony. He noted that traditional and religious leaders form a powerful alliance to address the root causes of insecurity through dialogue and community engagement.

Addressing the newly recruited members of the Amotekun Corps, His Majesty urged them to uphold the high standards of professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the Corps. He called for continuous collaboration between the Amotekun Corps and traditional institutions, emphasizing the value of grassroots insights in security operations.

Kabiyesi reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with all stakeholders in building a safer Ogun State.

The impactful lecture concluded with His Majesty’s blessings and a rallying call for unity in addressing security challenges. His speech left the audience inspired and set a high standard for the recruits as they embark on their noble mission to protect lives and properties.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Adedigba expressed profound gratitude to His Majesty for honouring the invitation despite his demanding schedule. He acknowledged the significance of Kabiyesi’s presence in motivating and enlightening the recruits and emphasized the need for continuous collaboration in combating insecurity.
