“The party formally adopts Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for the positions of Deputy Senate President and Hon. Muhammed Idris Wase as Deputy Speaker.

“This is a sequel to wide consultations with President Muhammadu Buhari, party stakeholders, including APC governors,” the statement reads.

With this latest development, Omo-Agege will now run alongside Ahmed Lawan, who is the party’s favoured candidate for Senate President.

Omo-Agege is believed to have led the armed invasion of the National Assembly last year leading to the theft of the Senate mace. Although he denied the allegation, he was found culpable by a National Assembly committee that investigated the incident.

According to Premium Times NG reports, it was gathered that Omo-Agege led the thugs into the Senate chamber.

Although the mace was recovered, no one has been prosecuted or convicted for the crime, the newspaper reported.
