APC Opens Door to Abba Yusuf, Invites Kano Governor to Join Ruling Party

The APC in Kano, led by Abdullahi Ganduje’s camp, has formally invited Governor Abba Yusuf to defect, describing the move as vital for unity and development, amid deepening NNPP divisions

APC Woos Abba Yusuf as Ganduje’s Camp Urges Kano Governor to Defect

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has formally invited Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to defect to the ruling party, assuring him of a warm reception should he decide to make the move.

The invitation was disclosed on Tuesday by the Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, who spoke on behalf of the party’s leader in the state and immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The development comes amid growing political tension within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), under whose platform Governor Yusuf was elected, following reports of his planned defection to the APC.

According to Abbas, the APC’s call is driven by the need for unity, reconciliation and collective progress in Kano State, rather than partisan rivalry.

Speaking in a statement issued in Kano, Abbas described the governor’s anticipated defection as a step capable of strengthening political cohesion and accelerating development in the state.

“The APC is ready to receive Governor Abba Yusuf with open arms so that, together, we can combine our strengths for the progress of Kano State,” Abbas said.

He stressed that the ruling party’s doors remain open to the governor and other NNPP stakeholders willing to align with what he described as a broader vision for Kano’s future.

Abbas added that upon his formal entry into the APC, Governor Yusuf and other defectors would be officially welcomed under the leadership of Dr. Ganduje, in what he described as an atmosphere of mutual respect, inclusiveness and shared responsibility.

Meanwhile, the governor’s reported defection has further deepened divisions within the NNPP, particularly between Yusuf and the party’s national leader and political benefactor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is said to be strongly opposed to the move.

Political observers believe the unfolding realignment could significantly reshape Kano’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
