APC Stuns PDP, Wins 20 of 23 LGAs in Rivers Council Elections
Governor Fubara loses his Opobo-Nkoro LGA to APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in 20 out of the 23 local government areas in the just-concluded Chairmanship and Councillorship elections held on Saturday across Rivers State.
In a surprising twist, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state managed to secure only three LGAs, despite holding power at the state level.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara also suffered a setback as his own Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area was claimed by the APC, the main opposition party in Rivers.
Announcing the results at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) headquarters along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, on Sunday afternoon, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, confirmed the APC’s sweeping victory.
“The All Progressives Congress has secured 20 chairmanship seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party won three. These results reflect the votes cast across the 23 local government areas,” Dr. Odey declared.
With the announcement, the APC has positioned itself as the dominant force in grassroots politics in Rivers, a state long considered a PDP stronghold. Read More
