Ijebu-North leaders have dismissed allegations that Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel used soldiers to intimidate residents during his empowerment programme, saying the event was peaceful, well-secured, and aimed at uplifting households, traders, and youths across Ogun East
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel has dismissed as false a report alleging that the Senator deployed soldiers to intimidate residents during his recent empowerment programme in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
In a statement signed by Asegbe A. O on behalf of the LOC and the people of Ijebu-North Local Government, the committee described the publication titled “Ijebu-North LG Lambasts OGD for Alleged Use of Soldiers to Intimidate Constituents as Military Launches Probe” as misleading, malicious, and a calculated attempt to distract from the Senator’s genuine service to the people.
The LOC clarified that the event, held on Sunday, 30 November 2025, was the sixth in a series of empowerment programmes already executed across other Local Government Areas in Ogun East Senatorial District. The initiative provided financial support, tools, and essential materials to households, market women, youths, and small business owners.
According to the organisers, the programme was executed with transparency and compassion, aimed at restoring hope and improving livelihoods across the district. They noted that the event was peaceful, orderly, and widely celebrated, with numerous beneficiaries leaving the venue “in jubilation,” as evidenced by photos and videos shared online.
The LOC praised Senator Daniel for what it called his “exceptional security consciousness,” adding that in a period of heightened insecurity—including kidnapping, ritual killings, and violent crimes—adequate security planning for an event of that scale was not only necessary but responsible.
“His concern and careful security arrangements during the programme reflect leadership anchored on responsibility,” the statement read. “It demonstrates an unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives while driving development.”
The committee accused unnamed political actors of sponsoring the false narrative to score cheap political points and undermine the visible progress recorded in the region. It called on security agencies to identify and investigate those behind the “unfounded claims.”
Reaffirming their confidence in Senator Daniel’s integrity and dedication to his constituents, the LOC urged the public to disregard the report.
