“Some politicians decided to organise a prayer session, hereby breaching the Presidential order & @NCDCgov guideline on social distancing, but no action will be taken because ‘proximity to power?’”

Nigerians have asked the government to apologize Nollywood popular actress Funke Akindele in reaction to a crowd that attended the funeral of Abba Kyari, the deceased chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday.

Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband, Abdulrasheed, popularly known as JJC Skillz, were arrested by officers of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly hosting a crowded birthday party in their Amen Estate amid coronavirus lockdown order issued by the government.

The couple were convicted and sentenced to 14-day community service after they pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of violation of social distancing order preferred against them by Lagos State government.

Singer Naira Marley and Lagos People’s Democratic Party’s chieftain and owner of Amen Estate Babatunde Gbadamosi escaped conviction after reaching a plea deal with the state government.

But videos and pictures from the funeral of late Kyari showed tens of people in attendance during the Janazah prayer and actual burial without observance of social distancing.

This has sparked off reactions from Nigerians demanding an apology for Funke Akindele.

“Funke Akindele was arrested, lost her ambassadorship and sentence her to 14days community service for violating the lockdown order.

“But just look at the crowd gathered at Abba Kyari’s burial and they’re even showing it on national television.

“This country is an entire circus.”

“Funke Akindele was arrested and arraigned for throwing a party in her house,” Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, a COVID-19 survivor said on Twitter.
