Actress Damilola Adegbite urges women to choose partners based on compatibility, respect, emotional maturity and commitment, not age or attention
Damilola Adegbite Warns Women Against Settling for Men Who Choose Them
Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has advised women against settling for men simply because they show interest in them, urging them to prioritise compatibility, respect and genuine commitment when choosing a partner.
Adegbite shared the advice during a recent episode of her YouTube podcast, where she addressed the pressure some women face to settle down and accept marriage proposals without first determining whether a prospective partner is truly compatible with them.
According to the actress, a woman’s age should not determine her choice of partner. Rather, she said the focus should be on whether both individuals can love, support and build a meaningful life together.
“Ladies, don’t choose someone because they chose you. Choose someone because they are right for you. Whether he’s younger, older or exactly your age, the question is always: Can we love, support, and build with each other?
“Because at the end of the day, we are not looking for numbers. We are looking for a partner. And if that partner happens to be younger, that is also fine,” she said.
Adegbite also spoke specifically about older women who receive romantic attention from younger men, cautioning them against making relationship decisions based solely on the flattering feeling of being desired.
She urged older women considering relationships with younger men to look beyond attraction and flattery and instead assess the man’s emotional maturity, respect, intentions and willingness to commit.
“To the older woman, if a younger man is interested in you, please don’t make the mistake of choosing him because he makes you feel desirable. Choose him because he respects you, supports you, and makes you feel safe.
“Only choose him if he is emotionally mature and knows what he wants, respects your children and your life, and actually wants to build something with you,” she added.
The actress’s comments have added to the ongoing conversation around relationships, age differences and the pressure placed on women to settle down, with Adegbite stressing that the quality of a partnership should matter more than age or the mere fact that someone has expressed romantic interest.
