President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has met with Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, to discuss opportunities for stronger investment partnerships and deeper economic cooperation between Canada and Africa.
The meeting focused on expanding investment opportunities in Canada and exploring ways the Dangote Group and other African investors could contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Dangote and Carney also exchanged views on Canada’s Africa Strategy and the need to strengthen two-way trade and investment flows between Canada and African countries.
The meeting comes amid growing efforts to deepen commercial ties between African economies and Canada, with both sides highlighting the potential for increased investment, innovation and industrial development.
Dangote emphasised the potential for African and Canadian businesses to build stronger partnerships, saying closer economic relations could generate jobs, promote innovation and support long-term economic growth across both regions.
“Strategic partnerships between Africa and Canada have immense potential to drive sustainable growth and create value for both regions. There is a strong case for increasing investment, fostering innovation, and building mutually beneficial commercial relationships,” Dangote said.
As part of his visit, Dangote also met with Ahmed Hussen, a Canadian Member of Parliament and Chair of Canada’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
Their discussions centred on strengthening Canada-Africa economic relations through increased trade, investment and long-term strategic cooperation.
The engagements highlighted the shared interest in expanding commercial links between Canada and Africa and creating investment partnerships capable of supporting inclusive growth and sustainable development.
For Dangote, the discussions also underline the growing role of major African investors in international markets and the potential for Nigerian businesses to contribute to economic opportunities beyond the continent.
