Delta Senator Ned Nwoko Dumps PDP

Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His resignation was documented in a letter dated January 30, addressed to the chairman of the PDP in his ward, Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

Nwoko did not disclose which party he plans to join next. Speculation about his exit from the PDP had been circulating for weeks, fueled by allegations of a strained relationship between him, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who served as the Delta North senator from 2011 to 2015.

Concerns arose that Oborevwori had marginalized Nwoko and his constituency to promote the agenda of Okowa, who has significant political influence. Supporters of Nwoko accused the state government of neglecting Delta North while prioritizing projects and appointments that favored Okowa.

In his resignation letter, Nwoko cited divisions among PDP leaders and Wednesday’s violence during the Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting—where there was a heated dispute between the embattled National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and Sunday Ude-Okoye, a former national youth leader over the secretary position—as his main reasons for leaving the party.
