Eight children have been reportedly found dead inside a parked car at 18 Adelayo Street, Jah Michael Bus stop, Olorunda LCDA in Badagry, Lagos State.

Reports said the eight kids were suffocated to death after they mistakenly locked themselves in the parked car in the compound of the stated address.

According to eyewitnesses, seven of the children died on the spot while the 8th child that was rushed to the hospital was pronounced dead on arrival.

Seven of the dead children, it was learnt are children of the Niger Republic residing at Jah Michael while the 8th child is the grandchild of the landlady.

Personnel of the Nigerian Police from Morogbo Divisional carried the kids and the landlady who was reportedly attacked and beaten by the parents of the dead kids to the Station.

Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the incident said that the children’s bodies have been recovered and deposited at the Badagry General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

“The eight children were said to have mistakenly locked themselves in an abandoned car while playing. Their bodies have been recovered and deposited at the Badagry General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy so as to determine the actual cause of death,” the PPRO stated.

“Notwithstanding the report made to the Police, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered a thorough and speedy investigation into the circumstances surrounding their death. The CP also commiserates with the families of the victims,” he added.
