The people of Yobe State are mourning the death of the Emir of Gazargamu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh, who passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness.

The revered monarch died in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment for an undisclosed health condition.

Confirming the development, the Emir’s son, Engr. Tijjani Hamisu Bala, who serves as the General Manager of the Yobe State Road Maintenance Agency, described his father as a devoted family man, mentor and outstanding leader whose life was dedicated to the service of his people.

In a statement issued in Damaturu, Bala expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s passing, noting that his reign was defined by wisdom, humility, courage and an unwavering commitment to the welfare and progress of the Gazargamu Emirate.

He said the late Emir’s leadership and fatherly guidance left a lasting impact on the community and would continue to inspire future generations.

“The Emir’s legacy of service, peace and dedication to humanity will remain a source of inspiration to the people of Gazargamu and beyond,” the statement noted.

Bala also prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased monarch, asking that his shortcomings be forgiven and that he be granted Al-Jannatul Firdaus. He further prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family, the Gazargamu Emirate Council and the people of Yobe State.

The death of the respected traditional ruler has triggered an outpouring of condolences from across Yobe State and beyond, with many paying tribute to his contributions to traditional leadership, peacebuilding and community development.

As of the time of filing this report, official details regarding the Emir’s burial arrangements had yet to be announced.
