FG Commences Palliative Works on Lagos-Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Road

The palliative measures for the entire 120 kilometers of the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode, Ore-Benin road will be completed by mid-December

Motorists plying the busy Lagos-Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode road will soon experience relief as palliative work is set to commence on the failed portions of the road next Monday.

The rehabilitation efforts, expected to be completed by the second week of December, come after swift action by the federal government, as Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt response.

Following an inspection of the damaged sections in Sagamu, Minister of Works, Dr. Dave Umahi, expressed concern over the poor state of the road, which has caused significant hardship for road users. He emphasized that immediate steps were being taken to address the situation, assuring the public that the federal government is committed to completing the repairs before the end of the year.

During the inspection, which was led by Governor Abiodun, the Minister said: “I am here on the directive of Mr. President, following our recent meeting, to assess the road and implement necessary measures to alleviate the suffering of motorists. Governance is about the people, and President Tinubu is dedicated to ensuring their welfare.”

He further explained that emergency intervention would begin immediately, with the collaboration of the Lagos and Ogun Controllers of Works and the state’s Commissioners for Works, Environment, and Transport. Hitech, a competent contractor, has been selected to carry out the palliative work on the two carriageways, totalling 120 kilometres.

“The President has directed that by Monday, you will see work beginning. The palliative measures for the entire 120 kilometers of the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode, Ore-Benin road will be completed by mid-December. We are also installing solar lights throughout the road, and by December 15, Governor Abiodun will commission the project on behalf of President Tinubu,” Umahi said.

Speaking earlier, Governor Abiodun shared the numerous complaints he had received from motorists regarding the road’s poor condition and highlighted his administration’s efforts to make it motorable. He praised President Tinubu for being a responsive leader who cares about the people’s well-being and commended the Minister of Works for his dedication to resolving the issue swiftly.

The governor assured residents that with the commencement of the road’s rehabilitation, travelers from the 17 southern states and all Nigerians would soon enjoy smoother journeys on the road.
