Former PDP Spokesperson Kola Ologbondiyan Resigns From Party

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, has formally resigned his membership of the party, marking yet another major exit in what has become one of the most turbulent years for the opposition party.

Ologbondiyan announced his resignation in a statement posted on X on Saturday, attaching a letter dated December 5, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of Okekoko Ward (09), Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

In the letter titled “Notification of Membership Withdrawal,” the former PDP spokesman said a personal review of his involvement in the party led to his decision to leave.

“It is now imperative to bring your attention to the fact that I have reviewed my participation in the PDP and came to the conclusion that, for personal reasons, I need to make my exit. I have therefore come to a decision to formally withdraw my membership of the PDP, henceforth,” he wrote.

Ologbondiyan, who served as the PDP’s image maker from 2017 to 2021, expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for the opportunities he enjoyed during his time in the party.
“Let me start by thanking you, as well as other levels of leadership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for the opportunities provided for me to serve the party as well as our fatherland, Nigeria,” he added.

His resignation deepens the crisis within the PDP, which has faced an unprecedented wave of high-profile defections in 2025. The internal turbulence—fuelled by leadership battles, factional disputes, and strategic repositioning for the 2027 elections—has shaken the once-dominant party.

In recent months, PDP governors including Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing either alignment with the federal government or disenchantment with the PDP’s national direction.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar dumped the PDP in July, accusing the party of straying from its founding principles before joining the ADC coalition.
Also exiting were Dino Melaye, who defected to the ADC after criticising the party’s efficiency, and former Delta State governor and 2023 PDP vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, who moved to the APC.

The movement extended to the legislature as well, with 16 lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly recently joining the APC amid political turmoil. Additional defections were recorded in Kaduna, Niger, and Katsina assemblies, while Senator Ned Nwoko also quit the PDP for the APC.

Ologbondiyan’s departure adds to the mounting political realignments reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections. Read More
