FROM VISION TO VENDETTA: HOW OGD BUILT TASUED WHILE OTHERS TRIED TO KILL IT
Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) reshaped Ogun State’s education landscape by transforming Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE) and establishing Nigeria’s first University of Education, TASUED. His bold decision to relocate TASCE to Omu and convert Ijagun into TASUED ensured the state became a pioneer in teacher education.
Daniel and his team, including the late Prof. Oyeneye and Prof. Oyesiku, secured accreditation with relentless effort, making TASUED Africa’s second University of Education.
Despite these achievements, opposition arose. In 2012, a committee led by the current Governor attempted to scrap TASUED entirely, threatening a legacy that had put Ogun State on the global education map. This move was seen as a deliberate effort to dismantle years of progress, disregarding the vision for quality teacher education in the state.
Over the years, successive administrations failed to prioritize TASUED’s growth. Recently, Governor Abiodun renamed TASCE to Sikiru Adetona College of Education, a move critics dismiss as political window-dressing rather than real development. Meanwhile, TASUED continued to struggle, surviving largely on its foundational strength.
A turning point has now come through the federalization of TASUED under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This intervention reinforces the institution’s importance and safeguards its future.

The facts remain clear—while OGD built a lasting educational legacy, others attempted to tear it down. History will remember the true champions of education. Read More
