BATOGD Movement Tour: Gbenga Daniel Renews Call for Ijebu-Remo State

Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has renewed calls for the creation of a new state from the old Ijebu Province, describing it as the last viable pathway to accelerated and sustainable development in Ijebuland.
Daniel made the appeal on Sunday, January 11, 2026, during the BATOGD Movement Tour of Odogbolu Local Government, where he addressed traditional rulers, party leaders, and supporters.
Speaking with conviction, the Senator stressed that the long-standing agitation for state creation had reached a critical stage and could only succeed if the people of Ijebuland spoke with one united voice.
Daniel said the proposed state, tentatively agreed upon as Ijebu-Remo State, represents the most realistic opportunity to unlock economic growth, political inclusion, and infrastructural expansion for the region.
“The last real hope for accelerated and sustainable development lies in the creation of a new state from the old Ijebu Province,” he said.
He disclosed that extensive groundwork had already been carried out at various levels but noted that he deliberately avoided public grandstanding until key requirements were nearly fulfilled.
According to him, the state creation process is complex and rigorous, requiring strict constitutional benchmarks, including clear evidence of unity among the affected local governments.
Daniel explained that the proposed Ijebu-Remo State must be backed by all nine local government councils that made up the former Ijebu Province, warning that anything short of this would jeopardise the process.

“The most critical requirement is unity of purpose. If the National Assembly does not see that unity, success cannot be guaranteed,” he warned.
He further revealed that stakeholders were close to reaching consensus on both the name and capital of the proposed state, cautioning that failure to decide internally could result in external imposition.
“If we fail to decide for ourselves, other people will take those decisions for us,” Daniel said.
Recalling his tenure as governor, Daniel highlighted landmark projects in Odogbolu and Ijebuland, including the establishment of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, the College of Education in Omu, and numerous educational and infrastructural developments.
He reassured supporters of his commitment to the state creation project, declaring that he does not embark on initiatives he cannot complete.
“I don’t usually touch things that I cannot complete, and on this project, I am fully committed,” he stated.
On party matters, the Senator announced the commencement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) e-registration exercise, urging eligible residents to register at their ward secretariats starting next week.

He called on party members to use the opportunity to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of upcoming political contests, including his senatorial re-election bid and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Daniel noted that the Odogbolu engagement marked the seventh stop in the BATOGD Movement Tour since its official launch on September 21, 2025, in Ìgodè, Sagamu Local Government Area.
He described the movement as a platform built on accountability, people-driven representation, and community engagement, aimed at advancing development across Ogun East Senatorial District.

The event ended with a call for continued unity, political participation, and sustained support for progressive governance in Ogun State and Nigeria at large. Read More
