In a recent interview that marked their 25th wedding anniversary, Shade Okoya, a successful entrepreneur and wife of billionaire industrialist Chief Rasaq Okoya, shared the intriguing story of their first encounter.
During her conversation with Channels Television, the 47-year-old mother of four reflected on how their paths crossed initially in a work-related setting, although she soon realized that Chief Okoya had other intentions in mind. Shade described his proposal as “too soon and too sudden,” catching her completely off guard.
She also recounted her family’s reaction to Chief Okoya’s interest, explaining that during a second meeting, one of his friends claimed to know her well and revealed an unexpected connection to her family. Following that, her uncle informed her grandmother of Chief Okoya’s intentions.
“When I met my husband, it wasn’t the typical kind of meeting. It was primarily for work-related reasons,” she recounted. “Looking back now, I recognize that my husband had his own mission and purpose at that time. Our meeting was casual; he saw me and expressed that he would like to meet again. The next time was straightforward. He said, ‘I would like to marry you,’ which felt far too quick for me, as I wasn’t expecting that.”
Shade continued, “Initially, I didn’t tell anyone in my family. My husband took it upon himself to make that move. From our first meeting, I sensed he liked me, but I wasn’t entirely certain. However, after his direct proposal during our second encounter, where he insisted he wanted to marry quickly and didn’t want to waste time, I didn’t know how to respond. I just knew in that moment that I probably wouldn’t see him again.”
She shared how during that visit, he was with friends who revealed a connection to her family. “One of his friends expressed that he knew me well and eventually realized he knew my mother and grandmother.
