Two people have sustained injuries after a 20-foot container truck overturned following a collision with another truck at New Garage, along Ikorodu Road in Ojota, Lagos State.
The accident occurred on Saturday when the container-laden truck, with registration number SUL 460 ZY, collided with a flat-body truck whose driver reportedly fled the scene.
The impact caused the container truck to overturn, obstructing about half of the carriageway and disrupting traffic along the busy road.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident, noting that the crash also damaged a high-tension electricity pole.
According to him, the damage caused power cables to fall across the road, posing an additional risk to motorists, pedestrians and emergency responders.
Oke-Osanyintolu said three people were in the container truck when the accident occurred, with two occupants sustaining injuries.
The driver’s assistant suffered serious head and chest injuries as well as multiple bruises, while the driver sustained injuries to his mouth and shoulder.
Emergency responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Ambulance Service provided first aid and advanced medical care to the victims at the scene before they were taken for further treatment.
Personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were also deployed to control traffic and support the rescue operation, while officials of Ikeja Electric secured the fallen electricity cables.
Authorities subsequently began efforts to remove the overturned truck and restore normal traffic flow along the affected section of Ikorodu Road.
