Fuji legend KWAM1 has dragged Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to court, seeking an injunction to halt the Awujale of Ijebuland installation process over a disputed royal lineage claim

KWAM1 Drags Dapo Abiodun to Court Over Awujale Succession, Seeks Injunction

Fuji music icon, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM1), has taken the Ogun State Government to court over the ongoing process to install the next Awujale of Ijebuland, seeking judicial intervention to halt the succession exercise.

The veteran musician dragged Governor Dapo Abiodun before the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, asking the court to issue an order of interim injunction restraining the governor and other key officials from taking further steps in the Awujale installation process.

Also listed as respondents in the suit are the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council; and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

KWAM1 has publicly indicated interest in the vacant Awujale stool, anchoring his claim on alleged ancestral ties to the Jadiara Royal House, which forms part of the larger Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

However, his claim has been stoutly rejected by members of the royal family, who insist that the Olori Omoba of Ijebuland has no lineage connection whatsoever with the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, effectively disqualifying the musician from the succession race.

In a motion ex parte filed at High Court 2, Suit No: HC3/238/2025, KWAM1 urged the court to intervene pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The application, dated December 16, 2025, was brought pursuant to Order 38 Rule 4 and Order 39 Rule 1 of the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024, Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.

In the motion, the applicant argued that the court’s intervention was necessary to preserve the subject matter of the suit and prevent irreversible steps from being taken by the respondents while the dispute remains unresolved.

He contended that granting an interim injunction would secure his interest and prevent the res from being dissipated or interfered with, pending the full hearing of the case.

As of the time of filing this report, the court is yet to fix a date for the hearing of the application.

The legal challenge has added a dramatic twist to the Awujale succession process, drawing national attention to the intersection of culture, royalty, celebrity and law in Ijebuland.
