The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down 10 additional businesses across the state for repeated environmental violations, including noise pollution, air pollution and the discharge of untreated effluent.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Wednesday, is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing campaign to enforce environmental laws and protect public health.

According to LASEPA, the affected businesses had previously received several warnings and abatement notices but failed to comply with the agency’s directives.

The sealed establishments include Granduer Meridian and Lasola (Spazio Bar) in Ipaja, Millennium Restaurant in Ayobo, O2 Exquisite Suites & Tower in Akowonjo, Chirozz Hotel & Suites, House 7 Hotel and House 48 in Egbeda, Exclusive Hotel in Akesan, Sabola Ventures Limited in Igando and City Int’l Motel in Idimu.

The agency said the facilities were sanctioned for offences ranging from persistent noise and air pollution to the unlawful discharge of untreated wastewater into public drains, obstruction of enforcement officials and continued non-compliance with environmental regulations.

LASEPA disclosed that Sabola Ventures Limited was specifically sealed for operating without an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) while discharging untreated wastewater into public drainage systems.

The latest enforcement follows the recent closure of 12 other facilities for similar environmental offences, underscoring the state government’s renewed drive to curb environmental pollution.

Speaking on the exercise, LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting public health through strict enforcement of environmental laws.

Ajayi said compliance with environmental regulations is a collective responsibility, warning that the agency would sustain monitoring and enforcement against businesses and individuals whose activities threaten public health and the environment.

He also urged business owners, facility operators and residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices and support the government’s efforts to build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos.
