‘Let’s be hopeful’ – Sen. Gbenga Daniel acknowledges severe economic situation, expresses empathy
Assures President Tinubu “will fix things”
“Things are tough in the country, but we must look ahead with hope. Whatever will become good often has unpromising beginnings. I urge you not to give up on the nation. I know President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I can assure you that he is a man of his word—he will fix things”
As Nigerians grapple with economic hardship fueled by rising inflation, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District and former Governor of Ogun State, has acknowledged the severity of the situation, admitting that even he, as a serving senator, is not insulated from its effects, Seunmanuel Faleye writes.
Otunba Daniel, while speaking at the distribution of the second batch of the Interest-Free Microcredit Scheme and Agricultural Empowerment Program for small-scale entrepreneurs and farmers in Ogun East, shared his views on the nation’s current economic realities.
The event, held at his Palatial Obalofin Court in Ijebu-Ode on September 16, was organized by his Gateway Front Foundation (GFF), a philanthropic initiative he established in 1991. The scheme aims to provide financial support to petty traders, artisans, and small-scale farmers, helping them expand their businesses and contribute to the local economy.
In addition to providing capital to entrepreneurs, the foundation also distributed fertilizer to farmers in the district, further strengthening its commitment to agricultural development in Ogun East.
In his address, Otunba Daniel, speaking in Yoruba, admitted that the economic situation in Nigeria is challenging but emphasized that the hardship could be temporary if the right decisions are made.
“Things are tough in the country, but we must look ahead with hope. Whatever will become good often has unpromising beginnings. I urge you not to give up on the nation. I know President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I can assure you that he is a man of his word—he will fix things,” Daniel reassured the crowd.
He lauded President Tinubu’s efforts to provide welfare packages through the National Assembly, a move aimed at cushioning the effects of inflation on Nigerians.
The senator further emphasized that the empowerment initiatives rolled out through GFF are not tied to his current role in government but reflect his lifelong passion for improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Since its inception, GFF has been a vital vehicle for socioeconomic development in Ogun East, with a long-standing tradition of supporting the grassroots, irrespective of political office.
Otunba Daniel’s engagement with his constituents, combined with his understanding of the nation’s challenges, reflects his broader vision of supporting sustainable growth and empowerment. His continued commitment to economic and agricultural initiatives has brought tangible results to communities across Ogun State, even in the face of adversity…Continue Reading
