Defectors claimed they were joining the PDP due to the quality of representation that Senator Abba Moro has demonstrated in the National Assembly
Mass Defection in Benue: Over 5,000 from APC, LP, NNPP, SDP Join PDP
In a significant political shift, over 5,000 members from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have crossed over to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The defectors cited the ruling APC’s dismal performance and inability to tackle the state’s worsening security crisis as key reasons for their departure.
The move was formalized at a lively defection event on Monday, where group leaders—Onah Idoko Alexander, John Adole, Engr. Adegbo Moses, Mike Ejeba, Ocheme Candidus, and Abah Ejeh—voiced their frustrations.
“The APC has failed woefully at both state and federal levels,” they declared, pointing to unmet promises and neglect. Instead, they praised Senator Abba Moro for his transformative leadership in Benue South, calling him a “rare leader” whose developmental efforts have touched nearly every community in the district. “We’re joining the PDP because of the quality representation you’ve shown in the Senate,” they told Moro, signaling their trust in his vision.
A visibly delighted Senator Moro welcomed the new members, promising them equal standing and opportunities within the PDP. He reaffirmed his dedication to delivering effective leadership for the benefit of Benue South, vowing to sustain his community-focused initiatives.
The event, buzzing with a carnival-like energy, drew prominent figures, including Rt. Hon. Mike Audu, Minority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, and Hon. Christopher Okpabi, Okpokwu Local Government PDP Chairman, alongside other dignitaries.
Their presence underscored the significance of the defection, hinting at a potential realignment in the State’s political landscape. Read More
