Ogun Residents Decry Crippling Gridlock as Oju-Ore Flyover, Ota-Idiroko Road Constructions Drag On

Residents of Ota, Ogun State, lament crippling gridlock from the slow Oju-Ore Flyover project and raise concerns over poor-quality work on the N15bn Ota-Idiroko Road. Citizens demand urgent government action

from L-R Ibikunoluwa Afariogun representing AFED, Alhaji Akeem Adeyinka Aremu, representing the Ado-Odo/Ota Zonal CDC;  Comrade Olajumoke Odeyemi, Chairperson Ado-Odo Ota Civil Society Group on Road Infrastructure,   Engr. Anyanwu Febian, Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ota Branch; and Comrade Jaiyesimi Olajide, of the Ota Sub- road monitoring.

Ogun Residents Decry Crippling Gridlock as Oju-Ore Flyover, Ota-Idiroko Constructions Road Drag On

Ota, Ogun State – September 2025

Frustration is mounting in Ado-Odo/Ota as residents, motorists, and business owners decry the worsening traffic gridlock caused by the slow pace of the Oju-Ore Flyover construction, coupled with fresh concerns over the quality of work on the multi-billion-naira Ota-Idiroko Road project.

At a press conference convened by the Ado-Odo/Ota Citizens Engagement Platform, community leaders warned that the twin challenges risk plunging Ogun State’s busiest industrial hub into economic paralysis.

Oju-Ore: A Nightmare for Motorists and Traders

According to the group’s coordinator, Mrs. Olajumoke Odeyemi, the long-awaited Oju-Ore Flyover, instead of easing transport, has created unbearable hardship.

“Our petition, signed by 1,127 citizens, highlights how the slow pace of this construction has paralysed movement, caused frequent accidents, increased transport costs, and forced many businesses to the brink of collapse,” Odeyemi said.

Commuters described what should be a 15-minute journey now stretching into several hours, with motorists trapped in fumes and stress daily. Many traders report losing customers, while transport operators complain of skyrocketing fuel expenses and losses.

“The economic hub of Ogun State cannot afford this paralysis,” Odeyemi warned. “Traders are losing customers, transporters are running at a loss, and residents’ health is suffering daily. Something must be done now.”

To ease congestion, the group urged the government to rehabilitate seven key alternative routes, including Papa-Aro to Itele Road, Iya-Ijebu Junction to Obasanjo Road, Access Road beside Grocery Bazaar (GB) connecting Papa-Aro Road and Babyo Bus Stop to Jendol via Ilogbo Road, among others. They said restoring these bypass routes would free traffic, improve safety, and revive economic activity.

Ota-Idiroko Road: Quality Under Scrutiny

The frustrations are compounded by growing doubts about the N15 billion Ota-Idiroko Road project, handled by LARALEK Construction Company. Despite the symbolic commencement of demolitions on July 4, 2024, residents say progress is slow and quality questionable.

Chief Olayiwola Deinde, a civil engineer and Seriki Oruba-Ota, voiced strong reservations:

“The Ota-Idiroko Road construction, a project that should elicit joy, going by the fact that an indigenous firm is in charge, is challenged by pace and quality. The drains haven’t reached expected distances, and we’re left guessing if the contractor is being adequately funded.”

He stressed that while the community supports development, it will not compromise on durability.

“This isn’t just concrete and stone—it’s a lifeline for thousands. If it fails under pressure now, what happens in a year or two?”

Call for Urgent Action

Copies of the citizens’ petition have been forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Works, FERMA, members of the National Assembly, and the Ogun State Ministry of Works, demanding immediate intervention.

“This advocacy is not confrontation but a civic duty,” Odeyemi emphasized. “We are demanding inclusive, responsive, and accountable infrastructure development that truly serves the people.”

For now, however, Ota—an industrial hub critical to Ogun’s economy—remains trapped in gridlock, its residents battling stress, failing businesses, and looming fears over the integrity of ongoing road projects. Read More

Wanted Luxury Developer Sujimoto Ogundele Speaks From Hideout, Breaks Into Tears

Lagos, Nigeria – September 6, 2025
Luxury real estate mogul Olasijibomi “Sujimoto” Ogundele has spoken publicly for the first time since being declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday.

In a video released from his hideout, Ogundele, visibly emotional, broke into tears as he narrated his side of the story. He attributed his ordeal to a dispute between his company, Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, and the Enugu State Government, insisting that he has been making efforts to resolve the matter.

“This is a deal gone sour. I have been reaching out to settle it, but things have now taken a different turn,” he said, wiping tears during the recording.

The EFCC declared the 44-year-old developer wanted on September 5, citing allegations of diversion of funds and money laundering. According to the agency, multiple attempts to invite Ogundele for questioning had failed.

Ogundele, who resides in the elite Banana Island area of Lagos, has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading real estate entrepreneurs, known for high-rise luxury apartments and grand architectural projects under the Sujimoto brand.

The case has drawn widespread public attention, not only because of his prominence in the real estate industry, but also due to the rarity of such high-profile figures releasing emotional public statements from hiding. Read More

NCGC Partners with Banks to Boost Credit Access for Youth and Women-Led Businesses

The National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) has signed a landmark MoU with financial institutions to expand credit access for youth, women-led businesses, and MSMEs in Nigeria

NCGC Partners with Banks to Boost Credit Access for Youth and Women-Led Businesses

Lagos, Nigeria – September 4, 2025 – The National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with leading Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs) to unlock credit access for youth, women-led enterprises, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The event, held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, brought together top financial sector executives, development partners, and key stakeholders.

Through this strategic collaboration, NCGC will provide credit guarantee solutions that reduce lending risks for PFIs, enabling them to extend financing to underserved businesses and households. By absorbing part of the risk, NCGC aims to ease credit constraints that have long hindered Nigeria’s MSME sector, which contributes nearly half of the nation’s GDP.

Speaking at the signing, Mr. Bonaventure Okhaimo, Managing Director/CEO of NCGC, described the initiative as a bold step toward reshaping access to credit in Nigeria.

“This initiative is not just about signing documents—it is about forging a bold partnership that will reshape how credit is accessed in Nigeria,” Okhaimo said.

He highlighted NCGC’s innovative products, including:

  • Individual Guarantees for term loans (up to 5 years) and working capital (up to 24 months), from ₦50 million to ₦10 billion.
  • Portfolio Guarantees with single obligor limits of ₦50 million and portfolio caps of ₦5 billion.
  • Partial Credit Guarantees covering up to 60% of loan value.
  • Co-Guarantees and Technical Assistance to support PFIs.

Drawing from successful models in India, South Korea, and the UK, NCGC’s pilot phase will prioritize high-impact sectors such as agriculture, green energy, fashion, export-driven businesses, and education.

Ms. Tinuola Aigwedo, Executive Director of Strategy and Operations, emphasized the transformative vision of the initiative:

“This partnership is not just about financial inclusion—it’s about economic empowerment. By unlocking access to credit for youth and women entrepreneurs, we’re laying the foundation for a more resilient and equitable economy.”

She noted that onboarding PFIs represents a major milestone for NCGC and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes youth empowerment, women’s economic inclusion, and MSME growth.

In his closing remarks, Professor Oseni, Executive Director of Risk & Credit Control, praised the collaboration:

“We all need one another for the economy to grow. This partnership is the beginning of an exciting journey—one that will bring finance to underserved communities and unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s entrepreneurial spirit.”

As part of the pilot, NCGC is committing ₦5 billion in credit guarantees to each onboarded financial institution, specifically targeting women-owned and youth-led MSMEs. This investment is expected to drive job creation, strengthen value chains, and improve Nigeria’s credit-to-GDP ratio.

The MoU, beyond a legal framework, stands as a collective pledge to build a more inclusive, resilient, and growth-driven financial ecosystem for Nigeria.

Ondo Police Cybercrime Unit Arrests Fraudster Behind Fake Police Academy Admission Scam

Akure, Nigeria – The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against cybercrime with the arrest of a notorious fraudster behind a fake Nigeria Police Academy admission syndicate.

In a statement released by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Command, operatives of the specialized Cybercrime Unit on September 5, 2025, apprehended one Samson Olamilekan Owolade, a resident of Ipogun, Akure, over crimes bordering on cyber fraud, defamation of character, and deliberate attempts to incite disaffection against the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.

According to the statement, the suspect had been on the radar of the Nigeria Police Academy following credible intelligence about individuals and groups defrauding applicants through fake admission offers, false advertisements, and fraudulent online platforms.

“Upon receipt of this vital information, the Ondo State Police Cybercrime Unit swung into action immediately, and in less than an hour of the report, successfully apprehended the suspect,” DSP Olushola stated. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down Owolade’s accomplices.

The suspect has already confessed to his crimes in a video statement and was identified as the creator of several fraudulent platforms, including the WhatsApp group “NPA RC12 Guide and Updates” with over 370 members, where at least 100 aspiring applicants have already fallen victim. He also ran the Facebook page “POLAC UPDATES GROUP”, used to spread misinformation and defame the Nigeria Police Academy.

Items recovered from Owolade include multiple mobile phones, laptop computers, routers, Wi-Fi devices, and several SIM cards used in carrying out the fraud.

The case will be transferred to the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, for further investigation and prosecution in line with jurisdiction.

The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the Police Academy and safeguarding the aspirations of young Nigerians. “This arrest is another clear warning to fraudsters and mischief-makers that no matter how far they hide, the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” the statement emphasized.

The Command reiterated that admissions are strictly merit-based and handled only through official channels of the Academy. Members of the public are advised to verify all information directly with the Nigeria Police before taking any action. Read More

Dangote Warns Truckers Against Illegal Use of Company Logo, Threatens Legal Action

Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has once again warned truck operators against the unauthorised use of its company logo, stressing that offenders risk legal consequences.

In a statement made available to newshealine247, the company expressed concern that despite repeated warnings, some truckers with no affiliation to Dangote continue to brand their vehicles with its logo. According to the company, these actions have led to “serious embarrassment to the brand.”

Dangote noted that some of these vehicles, falsely identified as belonging to the conglomerate, have been involved in incidents that were wrongly linked to the company.

The firm assured that it would intensify monitoring in partnership with security agencies and law enforcement authorities, while also taking legal action against offenders.

“We have repeatedly cautioned truckers to refrain from using our logo on unauthorised vehicles. Moving forward, we will increase vigilance and take decisive legal action against misuse of our brand identity, particularly concerning vehicles unaffiliated with the Dangote Group,” the company emphasised.

Dangote also expressed alarm over the proliferation of misinformation targeting the company, particularly the unfounded attribution of road accidents to its fleet. The company urged the public and media to verify facts before dissemination and warned against falling prey to individuals seeking to exploit tragedies for malicious or financial purposes.

The Dangote Group operates one of the largest commercial fleets in Africa, with over 12,000 trucks in Nigeria alone, including over 3,000 owned by third-party contractors. On any given day, more than 6,000 vehicles are actively engaged in operations that support the company’s extensive logistics network, generating over 36,000 direct and indirect jobs.

“We maintain close cooperation with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other regulatory bodies to standardise, monitor, train, and enhance our operational practices. Continuous internal audits enable us to identify gaps, adopt global best practices, and strengthen compliance across our fleet,” the company added. Read More

Gbenga Daniel’s Golden Years: How Ogun Rose to National Prominence Under His Watch| By Folake SOKOYA

0

In Ogun State, Daniel’s legacy as governor remains a golden chapter, a period when vision met action, and promises gave way to tangible results

Gbenga Daniel’s Golden Years: How Ogun Rose to National Prominence Under His Watch

| By Folake SOKOYA

When Otunba Gbenga Daniel assumed office as the Governor of Ogun State in May 2003, expectations were high, but the challenges were even greater. The state, blessed with natural resources, geographical advantage, and a rich cultural history, was underperforming in both infrastructure and human capital development.

By the time Daniel left office in 2011, Ogun state had not only witnessed an unprecedented wave of growth but had also earned its place as one of Nigeria’s most competitive states for investment and innovation.

Rewriting Ogun’s Infrastructure Story

One of Daniel’s most visible legacies was his aggressive push for infrastructural renewal. Major road networks were constructed and rehabilitated across the state, opening up rural communities and connecting them with urban centres. Landmark projects such as the Sagamu-Benin Expressway link, the Abeokuta-Sagamu interchange, and rural feeder roads improved commerce, reduced travel time, and boosted accessibility for farmers and traders.

His administration also embarked on modern housing schemes, with estates such as the OPIC developments reshaping urban living. Public facilities, including bridges, markets, and transport terminals, sprang up across the state, laying the groundwork for Ogun’s transformation into a business hub.

A Champion of Education and Human Capital

Daniel understood that no state could develop beyond the quality of its human capital. Under his watch, Ogun State established and expanded institutions that have today become centres of excellence. The creation of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Nigeria’s first specialised university of education, stands as a trailblazing achievement. The revitalisation of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and the establishment of ICT centres in secondary schools also reflected his commitment to preparing Ogun’s youths for a knowledge-driven economy.

In addition, Daniel’s government introduced free textbooks and significantly subsidised tuition, ensuring that more children, regardless of background, had access to quality education.

Healthcare for the People

His administration invested in healthcare delivery by upgrading general hospitals and establishing primary health centres across the 20 local government areas. The Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital was modernised to improve medical training and services. Mobile health initiatives, including free medical outreaches, took healthcare to rural dwellers who had long been neglected.

Industrialisation and Economic Growth

Perhaps one of Daniel’s most enduring impacts lies in his industrialisation drive. He repositioned Ogun State as Nigeria’s new industrial frontier, attracting local and international investors. With initiatives such as the Ogun State Free Trade Zone in partnership with Chinese investors, and the aggressive marketing of Ogun as an investment-friendly state, companies began to flock in. This deliberate policy shift laid the foundation for the state’s current industrial boom, particularly along the Lagos-Ibadan axis.

Agriculture was not left out, Daniel encouraged mechanised farming, introduced improved seedlings, and supported cooperative farmers, thus increasing food production and rural incomes.

Cultural Revival and Tourism Development

Ogun State, the cradle of Yoruba culture, found in Daniel a passionate promoter of heritage and tourism. He spearheaded the annual Gateway Festival, revived historic sites, and promoted arts and crafts as sources of pride and economic empowerment. His government invested in tourist attractions such as Olumo Rock and cultural centres, positioning the state as a choice destination for both local and foreign visitors.

Empowerment and Grassroots Development

Daniel’s tenure was also marked by people-oriented initiatives. From youth skill acquisition programmes to women empowerment schemes, he created opportunities for ordinary people to participate in the state’s prosperity. Micro-credit facilities, training workshops, and SME support services ensured that entrepreneurship flourished.

A Legacy That Endures

Eight years of Daniel’s leadership redefined Ogun State’s trajectory. He was not merely a governor who built roads and schools; he was a leader who envisioned a modern Ogun, self-reliant, industrialised, and people-driven. Long after he handed over the reins of power, many of his policies, institutions, and infrastructural projects remain the backbone of the state’s ongoing development.

Today, as a senator of the Federal Republic, Otunba Gbenga Daniel continues to shape Nigeria’s political and developmental discourse.

But for many in Ogun State, his legacy as governor remains a golden chapter, a period when vision met action, and promises gave way to tangible results. Read More
