Lagos is set to welcome a new addition to its skyline as plans advance for the Grandis 5Star Luxury Apartment & Suites in Victoria Island. Although construction is yet to commence, the project’s design is already generating attention within the property and architectural community—particularly for its emphasis on safety and durability.
The 17-floor residential development, designed to overlook Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, and Ikoyi, is being developed by Dumarco Construction Limited, a firm with decades of experience in the highly regulated oil and gas industry.
According to Adejuwon A. Ademola, General Manager of Dumarco, the project’s foundation rests on international safety standards rarely applied in Nigeria’s residential property market.
“In the oil and gas industry, there is no room for compromise. We are applying that same zero-tolerance approach to property development,” Ademola said. “Grandis is designed not just for luxury, but for peace of mind.”
Safety at the Core
Every stage of the development process—from design to eventual construction and maintenance—is being planned under strict global safety and quality assurance procedures. Dumarco has also separated the roles of developer, contractor, and consultant to ensure independent oversight and accountability throughout the project’s lifecycle.
The project team includes industry giants such as Julius Berger, Cappa & D’Alberto, Elalan, MC&T (Migliore Construzione & Tecniche) with Dubai’s VICC, and Business Contracting Limited, alongside consultants like Morgan Omanitan & Abe, LAMBERT, and James Cubitt.
Designed for Safety and Comfort
Plans for the building highlight reinforced structures, advanced fire prevention systems, smart-home integration, and 24-hour surveillance. Residents will also benefit from discreet, highly trained staff and facilities that balance privacy with comfort.
Ademola explained that the goal is to set a new benchmark for residential developments in Nigeria.
“We designed Grandis for people who want everything—security, sophistication, and the assurance that their home will look and perform as well in 20 years as it does on day one,” he said.
Setting a New Standard
Industry observers note that by applying safety protocols common in oil and gas to high-rise housing, the Grandis project could help restore confidence among buyers and investors who are increasingly wary of safety lapses in Nigeria’s property sector.
While construction is scheduled to begin soon, the Grandis 5Star Luxury Apartment & Suites is already being hailed as a model of how world-class safety standards can redefine luxury living in Lagos.

Ibom Air Incident: Comfort Emasson Apologises Over Mid-Flight Bust-Up, Condemns ‘Humiliating’ Treatment
Ms. Comfort Emasson has issued a public apology over her role in the confrontation that led to her removal from an Ibom Air flight on Sunday, August 10, 2025. While expressing regret for her conduct, she also condemned the way she was restrained and filmed during the incident.
In a statement released on Saturday, Emasson acknowledged that her behavior on the Uyo–Lagos flight could have been better managed.
“I acknowledge that emotions ran high and that I could have handled myself better. Airplanes are safety-critical environments, and crew instructions matter,” she said. “If my words or actions contributed to disorder on board, I am sorry for that. I do not condone violence.”
The airline had alleged that Emasson assaulted a flight attendant before being forcibly removed by security personnel on arrival in Lagos. Viral videos of the removal showed her in a disheveled state, which she described as “humiliating and degrading.”
“No one deserves to be treated without dignity — even in conflict,” she stated, noting that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) had condemned the incident and called for accountability.
After her arrest, Emasson was briefly remanded before the Federal Government ordered the withdrawal of charges against her on August 13. Initially placed on a lifetime “no-fly” ban, reports on August 15 indicated that airlines lifted the sanction following a regulatory review.
While taking responsibility, she insisted that lessons must be learned from the episode. She called for an “independent review of everything that happened — from the cabin exchange to ground handling,” and urged the establishment of clear rules prohibiting the filming of restrained passengers.
The lawyer further appealed to the public for civility, urging against threats or harassment of anyone connected to the case.
“I am grateful to my family, friends, legal team, and Nigerians who insisted that safety and human dignity can — and must — coexist. I’m healing and hopeful,” she said. Read More

Kaduna By-Election: DSS, Police Arrest PDP Agent With ₦30m Cash for Alleged Vote-Buying
The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a suspected agent of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Shehu Fantagi, with about ₦30 million allegedly set aside for vote-buying ahead of Saturday’s by-elections in Kaduna State.
Fantagi was apprehended on Friday evening at a hotel in Kaduna metropolis, where he was allegedly coordinating the distribution of funds meant to sway voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency election.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect was found in possession of tens of millions of naira in cash, believed to have been earmarked to compromise the integrity of the polls.
The Kaduna State Police Command, in a statement on Saturday, also confirmed the arrest.
“In a sustained and collaborative effort by security agencies to ensure that the forthcoming by-elections in Kaduna State are conducted peacefully and without interference from criminal elements, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in conjunction with the Department of State Services (DSS) have successfully apprehended a vote buyer in Kaduna,” police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan stated.
“At about 0330hrs of today, we arrested one Shehu Aliyu Patangi at a popular hotel located along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis and recovered a total cash sum of Twenty-Five Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Three Thousand Naira (₦25,963,000) from the suspect, believed to be earmarked for the purpose of inducing voters to compromise the electoral process.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had planned to use the said amount to bribe eligible voters. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and pleaded for leniency.”
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the synergy between the DSS and Police, stressing that security agencies remain committed to protecting the sanctity of the polls.
He warned: “Anyone, regardless of status, found attempting to undermine the electoral process will face the full wrath of the law.”
The Police Command assured Kaduna residents of maximum security before, during, and after the elections, urging them to come out and vote peacefully without fear or intimidation.
Elumelu notes that he takes on the role of Chief Marketing Officer in every organisation he leads, ensuring a deliberate and consistent approach to brand building that matches substance with execution
“Brand is Who You Are”: Tony Elumelu Shares Blueprint Behind UBA, Transcorp, TEF Success
Tony Elumelu, investor, philanthropist, and proponent of Africapitalism, says building a trusted brand takes years of effort — but destroying it can happen in seconds. It’s a truth, he insists, that guides every venture he leads.
For Elumelu, brand is not a marketing buzzword but the foundation of trust and the lifeblood of business. The United Bank for Africa (UBA) chairman — whose financial institution recently reported a staggering ₦3.2 trillion gross profit — calls it “the beginning of trust, the engine of loyalty, and the bridge connecting consumer, product and enterprise.”
“Success is not just about operations, it’s about perception,” he says. “How do your customers, employees and competitors experience your brand?”
UBA’s newly redesigned website reflects this ethos, offering faster navigation, real-time Nigerian stock prices, news updates and a premium user experience designed to appeal to young, upwardly mobile customers.
Elumelu notes that he takes on the role of Chief Marketing Officer in every organisation he leads, ensuring a deliberate and consistent approach to brand building that matches substance with execution. That strategy has paid off: Transcorp Group, which he also chairs, recently posted ₦279.7 billion in revenue and declared a ₦4.064 billion interim dividend.
His branding mindset extends to philanthropy. Through the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), he has empowered over 24,000 African entrepreneurs with more than $100 million in seed capital and trained 2.5 million young people on TEF-Connect, the foundation’s digital platform.
Elumelu’s Africapitalism philosophy also underpins Heirs Holdings’ investments in power, healthcare and financial services — sectors chosen for both profitability and social impact. Transcorp Power alone contributes nearly 1,000 MW to Nigeria’s grid, a vital share of the country’s less than 5,000 MW capacity.
For Elumelu, the lesson for Africa’s business leaders is clear: brand is identity, not just image. “Your brand is not just what you sell,” he says. “It is who you are.” Read More

“Still Searching for Someone’s Son” — Afrobeats Goddess, Tiwa Savage, Reveals Her Love Checklist
…Jet, Yacht and Zero Baby Mama Drama!
Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has opened up about her love life — or lack of it — revealing she’s still on the hunt for the perfect partner.
In a recent interview, the singer playfully admitted that her high standards might be making the search a little harder.
“I am still looking for someone’s son. I don’t have and I think it’s because I’m looking for specific things,” she said with a laugh. “Maybe I need to narrow my search down because what I’m actually looking for is someone who has a private plane, a yacht, someone who doesn’t have baby mama drama because I can’t deal. Is that my problem? I don’t have time to wait for a whole year.”
Savage’s wishlist — a jet, a yacht, and zero drama — has sparked conversations among fans, many of whom say the singer’s unapologetic honesty is part of what makes her a beloved figure in Afrobeats.
While she may be joking (at least a little), the “Somebody’s Son” hitmaker made it clear she’s not settling for less than she feels she deserves. For now, Tiwa Savage says the search continues — and she’s keeping her sense of humour along the way. Read More

EFCC To Arraign 23 ‘Yahoo Boys’ Nabbed at OOPL During Pool Party
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will today, Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 suspected internet fraudsters before Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The arraignment follows last month’s high-profile arrest of 93 suspected “Yahoo boys” during a pool party at a hotel within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta.
In a statement, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale revealed that profiling of the suspects showed almost all had been indicted for offences bordering on impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.
According to the anti-graft agency, the arrests were made after intelligence indicated the suspects had relocated their party venue twice to avoid detection — finally settling at the OOPL hotel, believing they could evade EFCC’s net there.
“The former president’s facility was not a target of EFCC’s operations. The suspects were the targets and have confessed to their involvement in internet crimes,” Oyewale clarified.
The EFCC noted that the arraignment will be conducted in batches, with the remaining suspects expected to be charged in the coming days.Read More
