Court Stops Ogun Govt from Demolishing Gbenga Daniel’s Properties Amid Political Tensions

The Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has issued ex-parte orders restraining the state government from demolishing or interfering with properties linked to former governor and serving senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

The orders, granted on Tuesday by Justice W.T. Ogundele in three separate suits, will remain in force until a scheduled hearing on August 19, 2025.

The court intervention comes in the wake of an escalating public dispute between Daniel and the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Daniel’s camp claims the government’s recent actions — including August 8 contravention notices and threats of demolition — amount to “political persecution.” They argue that the administration is attempting to apply a new law to properties that have stood for years.

The state government, however, insists there is no political vendetta, describing the notices as part of a routine urban renewal audit.

In the first suit (HCS/371/2025), filed by Otunba Gbenga Daniel and his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, the court ordered the defendants to maintain the “status quo” for Asoludero Court, a property covered by two Certificates of Occupancy.

The second suit (HCS/372/2025), brought by Conference Hotel Limited and Blue Chapel Limited, seeks to protect another property covered by a 2004 Certificate of Occupancy.

In the third suit (HCS/373/2025), Yeye Olufunke Daniel and Conference Hotel Limited are asking the court to safeguard a property they acquired from a previous owner.

Across all three cases, the orders bar the Ogun State Government from demolishing, tampering with, or otherwise disturbing the claimants’ “quiet possession” of the properties.

Inside the Scam: EFCC Boss Unmasks How Public Officials Fake Asset Declarations to Cover-up Future Looting

Inside the Scam: EFCC Boss Unmasks How Public Officials Fake Asset Declarations to Cover-up Future Looting

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has exposed a sophisticated corruption tactic used by some public officers — the “anticipatory declaration of assets” — designed to mask future looting of public funds.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the launch of the Virtual Tool on the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, Olukoyede revealed that this fraudulent practice involves declaring assets that do not yet exist, giving corrupt officials cover to later acquire them illicitly.

He recounted one startling example uncovered during an EFCC investigation:

“We discovered one very big property valued at over N3 billion declared in a CCB form. The declared address did not match the actual location of the property. We dug deeper and found that the property didn’t even exist at the time it was declared.”

Olukoyede urged the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to be vigilant against such “criminal creativity” and to intensify investigations using modern, technology-driven methods to curb corruption.

The launch event, organised by the CCB in collaboration with the Technical Unit on Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Reforms (TUGAR), also drew remarks from other top government officials.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, underscored the importance of integrity in governance, describing ethics and standards as the “bedrock of public service.” Applauding the CCB’s digital initiative, he called it “a milestone in digitizing public conduct oversight, promoting preventive compliance, and raising awareness.”

Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, highlighted the role of technology in driving transparency and reform:

“Without conduct and ethics, no reform will last. This tool is accessible, cost-effective, and promotes transparency through tracking and compliance.”

In his opening remarks, CCB Chairman Abdullahi Usman Bello assured that the new virtual tool would enhance accountability and guide public servants step-by-step on rules and regulations. Read More

Explainer: Why the Ogun State Government’s Move on Asoludero Court is Legally Flawed and Politically Tainted |By Seunmanuel Faleye

Asoludero Court is more than a private home—it is a public-spirited complex that has contributed to Ogun State’s cultural, educational, and philanthropic life for two decades

Explainer: Why the Ogun State Government’s Move on Asoludero Court is Legally Flawed and Politically Tainted | By Seunmanuel Faleye

By any sound interpretation of Nigerian law, the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 cannot retroactively apply to a building completed in 2004. The principle of non-retroactivity in law is clear: a new statute cannot be used to penalise acts or developments lawfully carried out under previous regulations unless the law explicitly states otherwise, writes Seunmanuel Faleye.

Asoludero Court, an architectural masterpiece built by Otunba Gbenga Daniel in 2004, was constructed almost two decades before the 2022 law came into existence. As a trained engineer, a former governor, and a man known for adherence to building regulations, Gbenga Daniel would not have embarked on such a project without obtaining proper approvals. Those approvals, issued under the law in force at the time, are reportedly intact and verifiable in the Ogun State Government’s own records.

Notices Served in One Sweep: A Procedural Ambush

The Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, in what resembles administrative aggression, served a contravention notice, a notice to quit, and a threat of demolition within three days, all initiated the same day.

This is not how town planning enforcement works. Where there is doubt about approvals or documentation, the law prescribes that the appropriate first step is a Demand Notice, essentially a request for the property owner to present documents for verification. Only after establishing a genuine violation should a contravention notice be issued, followed by a window for compliance or rectification.

By skipping straight to demolition threats, the government has signalled that it is not interested in due process. The speed and severity of the action betray a predetermined, politically motivated plan rather than an impartial enforcement of urban development laws.

A Pattern of Gestapo-Style Operations

This is not an isolated case. The midnight demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu-Ode in 2023, carried out in the early hours of a Sunday when courts and offices were closed, remains fresh in public memory. That operation, targeting a property linked to Daniel’s wife, bore all the hallmarks of political intimidation rather than administrative necessity.

The Asoludero move fits the same mould: selective enforcement, compressed timelines, and a visible disregard for fair hearing.

Selective Targeting and Unequal Enforcement

The claim that this is part of a general property audit collapses under scrutiny. Asoludero Court is located in a Government Residential Area (GRA), one of the most tightly regulated zones in Ogun State, where building approvals are closely monitored. Yet, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s own Iperu-Remo residence reportedly violates setback requirements by sitting dangerously close to a Trunk A road, without attracting any contravention or demolition notice.

The inconsistency is glaring: if setback violations are truly the issue, enforcement should be even-handed, starting from the governor’s own doorstep.

Asoludero Court is more than a private home—it is a public-spirited complex that has contributed to Ogun State’s cultural, educational, and philanthropic life for two decades. Designed by celebrated architect Arc Kayode Anibaba (FIA), it consists of the Daniel Family Residence, completed in 2004 long before the 2022 law, a library and mini museum containing thousands of books, journals, and historical records on Ogun State and Nigeria, the Gateway Front Foundation Offices (headquarters of the not-for-profit established in 2001), and a Leadership Training Academy with a 300-seat Asoludero Hall for lectures, conferences, and public functions.

To destroy such an institution is to erase part of the state’s intellectual and social heritage.

Investment in Ogun, Now Punished

Otunba Gbenga Daniel could have built his legacy projects in any state or country, yet he chose Ogun to spur development. From hotels to housing estates, his investments have created jobs, improved infrastructure, and attracted other private sector projects. Ironically, some of Governor Abiodun’s closest allies live in prototype brick houses Daniel himself commissioned and sold.

For the same government to now weaponise planning laws, especially a law enacted 18 years after Asoludero was built, sends a chilling message to investors: in Ogun State, your property rights depend on your political alignment.

The Ogun State Government’s handling of Asoludero Court violates both the spirit and letter of urban planning law. By bypassing a Demand Notice, compressing enforcement into a politically charged three-day window, and applying a 2022 law to a 2004 building, Governor Abiodun’s administration has crossed from governance into persecution.

If unchecked, this style of selective and arbitrary enforcement will not only damage the state’s legal credibility but will also discourage the very private investments Ogun needs to grow. Read More

Keyamo Warns Unruly Air Passengers, Orders Sanctions Over Viral Indecent Video

Keyamo Warns Unruly Air Passengers, Orders Sanctions Over Viral Indecent Video

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has issued a stern warning on aviation safety and security following recent incidents of unruly passenger behaviour — the latest involving Ms. Comfort Bob, who allegedly assaulted flight crew and ground staff onboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.

The incident occurred on August 10, 2025, aboard Flight Q153 at about 2:54 p.m., after the passenger reportedly refused to switch off her phone during take-off in violation of international aviation regulations.

In a statement posted Monday night on his official X handle, @fkeyamo, the Minister confirmed that Ms. Bob had been arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates Court for criminal offences and remanded at Kirikiri Prison after failing to produce adequate sureties.

“Apart from the indefinite flight ban imposed on the said unruly passenger (both local and international) by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Police has promptly arraigned her… and remanded her at Kirikiri Prisons,” Keyamo stated.

However, the Minister condemned the release of a video from the incident that showed “indecent exposure” of the passenger’s breast.

“Whilst we support the filming of her recalcitrant behaviour as evidence to prosecute her, what is deplorable is to release such evidence containing indecent exposure to the public to ridicule her. That is totally unacceptable to us… I have therefore directed that whoever released that part of the video amongst the staff should be singled out and adequately sanctioned,” he said.

Keyamo further ordered airlines to train and retrain their staff in public relations and crisis handling, stressing that security agencies would hold a joint meeting next week to improve coordination in dealing with such situations.

He urged passengers to use the Consumer Protection Directorate of the NCAA for grievances rather than resorting to disruptive conduct, warning that offenders would face lengthy flight bans and possible prosecution.

“We will continue to apply equal sanctions… lengthy flight bans and report the matters to other law-enforcement agencies to do their bit within their powers,” Keyamo concluded. Read More

EFCC Grills Ex-Sokoto Governor Tambuwal Over Alleged N189bn Cash Withdrawals

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday interrogated former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, over what investigators described as suspicious cash withdrawals totalling ₦189 billion during his administration.

Tambuwal, who arrived at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja around 11:30 a.m., was still being questioned by operatives at press time.

Sources say the former governor was expected to provide detailed explanations for the alleged financial transactions.

An EFCC insider disclosed that, “He is being held over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals to the tune of N189 billion. The withdrawals are in flagrant violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022. We have isolated all the allegations for Tambuwal — it is left to him to respond.”

It remained unclear whether Tambuwal would be released or detained overnight.

However, the EFCC is yet to issue any statement on the development. Read More

Court Clears Adron Homes of Rights Violation, Reafirms Legal Right to Manage Estate

Court Clears Adron Homes of Rights Violation, Reafirms Legal Right to Manage Estate

The Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has ruled in favour of Adron Homes and Properties Limited, dismissing a suit filed by the Registered Trustees of the City of David Residents Association (CODRA) and five others over alleged fundamental rights violations.

In the case, Suit No. FHC/AB/FHR/58/2023, presided over by Hon. Justice Abiodun J. Adeyemi, the Applicants — Elder Gbadebo Aromolaran, Mr. Adetokunbo Adeshile, Mr. Olaolu Ayinde, Olusegun Aba Yomi Esq, and Oluwadamilare Awokoya Esq — accused Adron Homes of infringing on their right to personal liberty in relation to the management of their estate.

After a detailed review of evidence and arguments, Justice Adeyemi concluded that the claims were “unsubstantiated, speculative, and without merit.”

The court held that the Applicants failed to produce credible proof that Adron Homes had acted in any way that threatened or violated their fundamental rights. As such, the suit was dismissed in its entirety, reaffirming Adron Homes’ legal right to manage the estate in question.

Hon. Justice Adeyemi noted that there was no record or proof of any invitation, arrest, or action traceable to Adron Homes that could justify such a claim. He concluded that the allegations were merely speculative and unsupported by evidence.

On the claim of proscription and infringement of the Applicants’ right to freedom of association, the court ruled emphatically that Adron Homes has no power to proscribe CODRA or prevent residents from associating. However, in a critical clarification, the court affirmed that while residents are free to associate among themselves, the legal right to own, manage, and make administrative decisions concerning the estate remains vested in Adron Homes, as the rightful developer and manager.

Justice Adeyemi stressed that the court’s decision was guided strictly by evidence and the law, not by conjecture or subjective interpretation. Consequently, the Applicants’ case was dismissed in its entirety.

Despite Adron Homes’ victory in the lawsuit, the organisation’s true victory is in ensuring the well-being and satisfaction of all its subscribers and residents, and they will not relent in guaranteeing this.

This landmark judgement not only vindicates Adron Homes but also reaffirms its position as a law-abiding, customer-focused developer dedicated to delivering value and protecting the interests of its clients. Read More

Lagos Port Sting as Customs Nabs ₦10bn Arsenal, Fake Drugs, Contraband in 16 Containers

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has pulled off a major bust at Lagos Port Complex, Apapa — intercepting 16 containers crammed with firearms, counterfeit drugs, banned food products, and other contraband valued at a staggering ₦10 billion.

Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi revealed the seizures during a Sunday media briefing, crediting them to “coordinated intelligence and joint security operations.”

Among the shocking finds Two pump-action rifles, 25 cartridges, a Smith & Wesson pistol with 55 rounds of ammunition and 202 cans of “Colorado Loud” — a potent Canadian cannabis strain weighing 101kg, all hidden inside a 40-foot container (MRSU6407089) consigned to Lagos businessman, Mr. Babatunde Ogidiolu.

Adeniyi disclosed that the container had initially passed clearance before a second inspection exposed the illicit cargo.

The operation also uncovered, seven containers of expired drugs and prohibited medicaments, three containers of expired margarine and banned food items, three containers of used clothing, two 40-foot containers each holding 1,290 sacks of frozen poultry and a container of 305 cartons of counterfeit toothpaste concealed among beads and jalabiya clothing — a product infringing a Nigerian brand’s trademark and lacking NAFDAC approval.

In another major find, intelligence-led officers to two containers of codeine-based substances linked to suspects already connected with previous drug seizures.

“We have deployed technology, intelligence, and inter-agency collaboration to maintain a balance across our enforcement mandates,” Adeniyi said. “The results over the last two years justify our strategy.”

The NCS confirmed that all items remain in secure custody while investigations continue to identify and prosecute the smugglers behind the operation. Read More
